Patriot League Announces Men’s Soccer Players of the Week (3.23.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — American earned two of the five Patriot League Men’s Soccer weekly awards as the League announced the awards on Tuesday. Holy Cross, Lafayette and Lehigh collected one weekly award each.

American senior Jake Agnew earned Patriot League Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, while midfielder Jason Bouregy garnered rookie of the week honors.

Lehigh junior forward Josh Luchini was named the Patriot League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Holy Cross sophomore Matt McGonigle earned midfielder of the week. Lafayette junior Will Echeverria collected defensive player of the week honors for the first time of the season.

American senior forward Kyle Hellman, Colgate Justin Weiss, Holy Cross Nick Conklu, Lafayette Martin Ssessanga, and Lehigh Bratislav Petkovic all earned an honorable mention.

Offensive Player of the Week
Josh Luchini, Lehigh, Jr., F, Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny
* Luchini recorded a hat trick along with the game-winning goal to lead the Mountain Hawks past the Bison, 4-1.
* Luchini scored in the 48th, 75th and 78th minutes, securing the win for Lehigh. His trio of goals marks the second hat trick of his career.
* The junior has 20 career goals, 46 points and 10 game-winning goals in his 41-game career.

Midfielder of the Week 
Matt McGonigle, Holy Cross, So., M, Los Angeles, Calif./Notre Dame
* McGonigle led the team with one goal and one assist in Saturday's 2-1 victory at Army West Point.
* In the 18th minute, the sophomore gained possession off a turnover and fed Dylan Scanley for a goal to put the Crusaders up 1-0.
* He then netted the game-winning goal in the 67th minute off a cross from Max Krause.

Defensive Player of the Week
Will Echeverria, Lafayette, Jr., D, Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow
* Echeverria scored his first collegiate goal on Saturday in the second minute in the Leopards’ 2-1 win over Colgate to stay undefeated this spring.
* The junior was also part of a defensive line that kept the Raiders to one shot on goal.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week 
Jake Agnew, American, Sr., GK, Farmington, Minn./IMG Academy
* Agnew picked up three saves in the first half to help hold the Loyola Maryland front line to just one goal.
* Agnew faced 13 first-half shots from the Greyhounds.

Rookie of the Week
Jason Bouregy, American, Fr., M, Paramus, N.J./Don Bosco Prep
* The freshman set up the game-tying goal against Loyola Maryland with a feed to Kyle Hellmann.
* Bouregy's first career assist helped tie the game with just 76 seconds left in regulation.
 
Honorable Mentions
Kyle Hellmann, American, Sr., F, Nashville, Tenn./Father Ryan
* Hellmann scored two goals in a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Loyola Maryland on Saturday night.
* The first goal came with just 76 seconds left in regulation while his second goal came in overtime.
 
Justin Weiss, Colgate, Fr., F, Syosset, N.Y./Syosset
* Weiss scored his first collegiate goal in Colgate's 2-1 loss at Lafayette on Saturday. He brought the Raiders within one in the 87th minute.

Nick Conklu, Holy Cross, Sr., GK, Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee
* Conklu picked up his first victory of the season at Army West Point with two saves in goal.

Martin Ssessanga, Lafayette, Sr., F, Brick, N.J./Curtis
* The senior netted his second goal of the season in the 51st minute in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Colgate, helping the Leopards extend their win streak to three.

Bratislav Petkovic, Lehigh, Sr., M, Ridgewood, N.Y./Maspeth
* Petkovic registered an assist on Josh Luchini's second of three goals in Saturday's 4-1 victory over Bucknell.
