Patriot League Announces Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (3.8.21)

Greyhounds claim four of the five weekly honors, Terriers receive one

BETHLEHEM, Pa. –Loyola Maryland claimed four of the five Patriot League women’s lacrosse weekly honors when the League office announced them on Monday. Boston University collected one weekly accolade.
 
Loyola Maryland senior Livy Rosenzweig captured her fourth career Patriot League Attacker of the Week honor after totaling 16 points on 10 goals and six assists in the Greyhounds’ 2-0 week.
 
Senior Sam Fiedler recorded 11 points on eight goals and three assists to go along with four ground balls and five caused turnovers to earn midfielder of the week for the second time during her career.
 
Senior Katie Detwiler was named defensive player of the week after anchoring a Greyhounds’ defense that held Villanova and American to a combined two goals during a 2-0 week. Detwiler received the honor for the fifth time in her career.
 
Senior Kaitlyn Larsson was named goalkeeper of the week for the third time after posting 14 saves with a .583 save percentage and 5.22 goals-against average in wins against Villanova and American.
 
Boston University freshman midfielder Kendall Sims was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week after finishing with one goal, two assists, one draw control, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the Terriers’ 12-10 comeback win over Vermont.
 
Boston University senior attacker Makenzie Irvine, Holy Cross junior attacker Jolie Creo and senior Haley Walker, Lehigh senior goalkeeper Samantha Sagi and sophomore attacker Gabby Schneider and Lafayette senior Mia Magarro all received honorable mentions for their performance over the weekend.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE ATTACKER OF THE WEEK
Livy Rosenzweig, Loyola Maryland, Sr., Attacker, Katonah, N.Y./Somers
*Rosenzweig led the Greyhounds to a 2-0 week, defeating Villanova (18-6) and American (21-4), with a combined 16 points on 10 goals and six assists. She also had seven draw controls, two ground balls and three caused turnovers.
*The senior attacker recorded her fourth career nine-point game with six goals and three assists against the Wildcats on Wednesday.
*Rosenzweig helped Loyola Maryland open League play 1-0 with four goals, three assists, five draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers against the Eagles.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Sam Fiedler, Loyola Maryland, Sr., Midfielder, Reisterstown, Md./Garrison Forest
*Fiedler totaled 11 points on eight goals and three assists, to go along with four ground balls and five caused turnovers in the Greyhounds’ wins over Villanova (18-6) and American (21-4).
*She registered seven points on five goals and two assists while causing two turnovers and one ground ball to defeat the Wildcats.
*The senior midfielder had three goals, one assist, three ground balls and three caused turnovers against the Eagles.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Katie Detwiler, Loyola Maryland, Loyola Maryland, Sr., Devon, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll
*Detwiler led a Loyola Maryland defensive unit that allowed a combined 10 goals in victories over Villanova (18-6) and American (21-4).
*She finished the week with eight draw controls, and one caused turnover.
*The senior defender held Preseason All-American Emma Vinall to no goals and one assist in the victory over the Eagles.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Kaitlyn Larsson, Loyola Maryland, Sr., Goalkeeper, Garden City, N.Y./Garden City
*Larsson recorded wins over Villanova (18-6) and American (21-4) with 14 saves, a .583 save percentage and 5.22 goals-against average.
*The senior goalkeeper matched a season-high with eight saves in the Greyhounds’ 18-6 win over Villanova before holding American to four goals with six saves.  
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Kendall Sims, Boston University, Fr., Midfielder, Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset
*Sims finished with three points on one goal and two assists while recording one draw control, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the Terriers’ 12-10 win over Vermont.
*She assisted on both the game-tying and go-ahead goals for BU. Her first collegiate goal cut the deficit to 9-7 with 20:42 remaining in the game.

*Irvine scored all four of her goals in the second half, including a game-winner, to help Boston University overcome a six-goal halftime deficit in a 12-10 win over Vermont.  
 
Jolie Creo, Holy Cross, Jr., Attacker, Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side
*Creo finished with six points on three goals and three assists in the Crusaders’ 12-9 victory over Lafayette. She also collected four draw controls.   
 
Haley Walker, Holy Cross, Sr., Defender, Baltimore, Md./St. Paul’s
*Walker helped the Crusaders’ defense hold Lafayette to nine goals while picking up two ground balls and causing a team-high three turnovers.    
 
Samantha Sagi, Lehigh, Sr., Goalkeeper, Elkridge, Md./Howard
*Sagi made nine saves on 15 shots to lead Lehigh to a 9-6 victory over La Salle on Saturday. She also collected two ground balls.    
 
Gabby Schneider, Lehigh, So., Attacker, Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East
*Schneider had a hand in seven of Lehigh’s nine goals in Saturday’s 9-6 victory over La Salle. She finished with six goals and one assist in addition to three ground balls.     
 
Mia Magarro, Lafayette, Sr., Defender, Old Tappan, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy
*Magarro picked up a game-high eight ground balls and caused two turnovers in the Leopards’ loss to Holy Cross on Saturday.
