BETHLEHEM, Pa — Loyola Maryland, the No. 1 seed in the South Divison of the upcoming Patriot League Championship, received three of the League's six men's soccer major awards when the League office announced its postseason honors on Tuesday. Lafayette and Navy both collected two major award nods.
Greyhounds' senior midfielder Sam Brown was named offensive player of the year, while teammate senior midfielder Justin Ingram earned midfielder of the year honors. Loyola Maryland senior goalkeeper Chase Vosvick nabbed Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year for the third time.
Lafayette junior Nick Hazel and Navy junior Matt Nocita were named Patriot League Co-Defensive Players of the Year. The tie for defensive player of the year remained following a re-vote by the head coaches and sports information directors.
Navy freshman midfielder David Jackson received rookie of the year, while Lafayette head coach Dennis Bohn rounded out the major awards as the coach of the year.
Eleven student-athletes were named to each of the first-, second- and third-teams, with 12 total student-athletes being seniors.
The Midshipmen led the way with seven overall all-League selections, followed by Lafayette and Loyola with six apiece. Holy Cross followed with four honorees and Colgate placed three on the all-League teams. American and Boston University each received two honorees, while Army West Point, Bucknell and Lehigh each had one student-athletes receiving all-League recognition.
The major awards and All-Patriot League teams were voted on by the 10 Patriot League men's soccer head coaches, who could not vote for their student-athletes or themselves.
2020-21 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year
Sam Brown, Loyola Maryland, Sr., M, Media, Pa./Penncrest
* Brown capped the regular season with a pair of goals and assists for six points.
* The senior was named midfielder of the week on April 6 when he provided the equalizing goal with 16:08 remaining in the opening half, helping Loyola secure a 1-1 draw at American.
* In 59 appearances for Loyola, Brown has scored eight goals and had eight assists for 24 points.
* Brown earned All-Patriot League Second Team honors in 2018.
2020-21 Patriot League Midfielder of the Year
Justin Ingram, Loyola Maryland, Sr., M, Indianapolis, Ind./Pike
* Ingram ended the regular season tied for the team lead with six points (2 goals, 2 assists) while starting all five games this spring.
* Ingram was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Week on Monday, April 12, after he factored in three of Loyola's four goals during the 2-0 week with a goal and two assists.
* The senior has scored five goals and dished seven assists for 17 points in his career at Loyola.
* Ingram earned All-Patriot League Second Team laurels in 2019.
2020-21 Patriot League Co-Defensive Player of the Year
Nick Hazel, Lafayette, Jr., D, Roebling, N.J./Florence Township
* The junior anchored a defensive line that gave up just five goals in six contests this season, which tied for third in the League.
2020-21 Patriot League Co-Defensive Player of the Year
Matt Nocita, Navy, Jr., D, Porter Ranch, Calif./Oaks Christian
* Nocita, a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, netted one goal this season.
* The junior was part of a backline that allowed five goals overall and four League-play goals this season.
* Nocita's accolades during his career include: All-Patriot League First Team honoree ('19), United States Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team member ('19), third-team All-Patriot League member ('18)
2020-21 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year
Chase Vosvick, Loyola Maryland, Sr., GK, Phoenix, Md./Montverde Academy (Fla.)
* In five games in goal this season, Vosvick made 13 saves for a .722 save percentage and posted a 0.92 goals-against average for the Greyhounds.
* Vosvick owns a 31-17-5 record, 153 saves and 20 shutouts, to go with a .724 save percentage and a 1.03 goals-against average in his four years at Loyola.
* Vosvick's accolades during his career include: goalkeeper of the year ('17, '18), rookie of the year ('17), two-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree ('17, '18), second-team All-Patriot League member ('19), and a three-time United States Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team member ('17, '18, '19).
2020-21 Patriot League Rookie of the Year
David Jackson, Navy, Fr., M, Cypress, Texas/iSchool High
* Jackson finished his first year at Navy with two goals (both game-winners) and two assists for six points, as he had a hand in at least one goal in three games.
* Jackson was named rookie of the week on April 6 off an assist on the Midshipmen's game-winning goal in the team's 2-0 victory against Lehigh, to give the Mids their second-straight shutout.
2020-21 Patriot League Coach of the Year
Dennis Bohn, Lafayette
* Bohn led the Leopards to a 6-0 record in the North Division and the top seed in the North Division of the Patriot League Championship.
