Patriot League Announces Men’s Soccer Academic Honors (4.16.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bucknell senior midfielder Matt Thorsheim earned the 2020-21 Patriot League Spring Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolade, when it was announced by the League office on Friday. He is also one of the 11 members of the sport’s Academic All-Patriot League team.

Six of the 10 Patriot League programs are represented on the academic all-League squad, with Loyola Maryland leading the way with three student-athletes on the team. Six of the 11 student-athletes selected to the academic all-League squad were also named to the All-Patriot League teams on Tuesday, including Thorsheim, Colgate senior midfielder Chris DePreto, Loyola senior defender Jacob Denison and senior goalkeeper Chase Vosvick, and Navy senior goalkeeper Ian Bramblett and junior defender Matt Nocita.  
 
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player within his/her sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out during the summer.

* A senior accounting and financial management major, Thorsheim owns a 3.70 cumulative grade-point average.
* The 2019 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year is a four-time All-Patriot League selection and a three-time academic All-League member.
* The senior finished the regular season with two assists in five appearances for Bucknell.
