BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The American Eagles won the 2020-21 Patriot League Spring Men’s Soccer Championship after defeating Lafayette, 2-1, in double-overtime on Saturday afternoon in Easton, Pa.
American senior forward Nick Dimitrijevic scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime. The win marks the Eagles’ third Patriot League title and first since 2004.
American junior forward David Coly was named the Tournament MVP. Coly was joined by teammates senior forward Nick Dimitrijevic, senior defender Oscar McConnell, and senior defender Jerry Zouantcha on the all-tournament team. Lafayette’s all-tournament team members included sophomore forward Hale Lombard, junior forward Nick Hazel and junior forward Max Ippolito.
Holy Cross sophomores Jack Ostrosky (midfielder) and Taj Salawu (defender), and Loyola Maryland senior midfielder Justin Ingram and junior forward Kelan Swales were also placed on the all-tournament team.
American earned the Patriot League automatic bid to the 2020 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship in Cary, N.C. They will learn their first-round opponent when the NCAA Selection Show takes place on Monday, April 19 at noon.
