Patriot League Field Hockey Players of the Week Announced (4.19.21)

Holy Cross claims two weekly accolades; American and Boston receive one honor apiece

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Holy Cross claimed two of the four Patriot League weekly field hockey awards when the League office announced the final honors of the season on Monday. American and Boston University split the remaining two accolades.
 
Holy Cross freshman goalkeeper Brooke Ross was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week after making eight saves in a 2-1 victory over Colgate to clinch a spot in the Patriot League Field Hockey Championship. Crusaders’ freshman forward Allie McDonough claimed rookie of the week honors with her first collegiate goal in the win over the Raiders.
 
American senior midfielder Noor Coenen earned her second Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honor this season and the sixth of her career. She scored two goals, including the game-winner, in American’s 3-2 double-overtime victory over Lafayette to seal the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Field Hockey.
 
Boston University senior defender Kathryn Scheerer received Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after leading the Terriers’ to a 5-2 win over Lehigh to complete an undefeated regular season and earn the top seed in the Patriot League Field Hockey Championship. She added one goal and one assist for the Terriers.
 
American junior defender Georgia Davies and freshman goalkeeper Bryn Underwood, Boston University senior Liz Ryan, Holy Cross junior defender Caitlin Little, Lafayette senior midfielder Audrey Sawers and Lehigh senior defender Lenke Havas all received honorable mentions for their performances.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Noor Coenen, American, Sr., Midfielder, Naarden, Netherlands/Laar en Berg
*Coenen scored two goals, including the game-winner, in American’s 3-2 double-overtime victory over Lafayette in the regular-season finale.
*She scored the game’s first goal at the 5:10 mark in the first quarter to give the Eagles’ a 1-0 lead. Coenen ended the game with a penalty stroke goal in the 75th-minute.
*The defending offensive player of the year put consistent pressure on the Leopards’ defense, taking nine shots with four on goal.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kathryn Scheerer, Boston University, Sr., Defender, Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East
*Scheerer anchored the Terriers’ defensive effort in a 5-2 victory over Lehigh on Sunday, in addition to adding one goal and one assist.
*The Downingtown, Pa. native was part of a Boston University defense that held the Mountain Hawks to four shots after halftime.
*She scored BU’s second goal and assisted one of the Terriers’ third-quarter goals to help put the team in front to seal a 4-0 regular season.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Brooke Ross, Holy Cross, Fr., Goalkeeper, Winchester, Mass./Winchester
*Ross made eight saves and allowed one goal to lead Holy Cross to a 2-1 victory over Colgate to clinch the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Field Hockey Championship.
*The freshman goalkeeper made four saves in the first quarter to hold the Raiders’ scoreless and then four more in the fourth quarter to help the Crusaders hold onto a one-goal victory.
*She is 2-0 in her first pair of collegiate starts to help the Crusaders overcome a 0-3 start to clinch a spot in the postseason.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Allie McDonough, Holy Cross, Fr., Forward, Norwood, Mass./Norwood
*McDonough scored her first collegiate goal at the 29:20 mark in the second quarter to give Holy Cross a 1-0 lead in an eventual 2-1 win.
*The Norwood, Mass. native scored her goal during a second quarter where the Crusaders outshot Colgate, 12-1. She took Holy Cross’s first shot of the game in the first quarter.
 
HONORABLE MENTION
Georgia Davies, American, Jr., Defender, Ipswich, England/Ipswich School
*Davies led an Eagles’ defense that held Lafayette to a combined three shots over two overtime periods in a 3-2 victory. The junior defender inserted eight of the Eagles’ nine penalty corners, including the game-winner.
 
Bryn Underwood, American, Fr., Goalkeeper, Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson
*Underwood made seven saves in more than 75 minutes of play in American’s 3-2 double-overtime victory over Lafayette. The freshman goalkeeper made two saves in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.
 
Liz Ryan, Boston University, Sr., Midfielder/Forward, Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Falls
*Ryan scored two goals on three shots to lead Boston University to a 5-2 victory over Lehigh and clinch the top seed in the Patriot League Championship.
 
Caitlin Little, Holy Cross, Jr., Defender, Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional
*Little scored the game-winning goal in Holy Cross’s 2-1 victory over Colgate to clinch a berth in the Patriot League Field Hockey Championship.  
 
Audrey Sawers, Lafayette, Sr., Midfielder, North Vancouver, British Columbia/Handsworth
*Sawers had a hand in both of the Leopards’ goals with one goal and one assist in a 3-2 double-overtime loss to American. The senior midfielder finished the season with a League-leading four goals.
 
Lenke Havas, Lehigh, Sr., Defender, Maastricht, The Netherlands/Sint-Maartenscollege
*Havas scored her third goal of the season in the Mountain Hawks’ loss to No. 20 Boston University.
