BETHLEHEM, Pa. – American junior forward Aidan Rossman was named the 2020-21 Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year, in addition to being selected to the 12-member Academic All-Patriot League Team when the League office announced honors on Thursday.
Rossman (political science, 3.94 GPA) marks the 11th time an Eagle received the top field hockey academic honor. She is among a list of seven Patriot League field hockey student-athletes to garner Academic All-Patriot League honors for the second time. Rossman, Boston University junior forward Casey Thompson (business administration and management, 3.83 GPA), Bucknell senior defender Kaelyn Long (early childhood education, 3.92 GPA), Colgate senior midfielder Katie Anderson (biology, 3.99 GPA), Holy Cross senior defender Emily Devine (mathematics, 3.93 GPA), and senior forward Minke Koomen (physics and economics, 3.82 GPA) all made the 2019 Academic All-League squad. Lehigh senior defender Lenke Havas (economics and management, 3.75 GPA) was a member of the 2018 academic team.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom. The awards are voted on by Patriot League field hockey sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
2020-21 Patriot League Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Aidan Rossman, American, Jr., Forward, Beaverdam, Va./Patrick Henry
*Rossman finished the regular-season tied as American’s second-leading scorer with four points on two goals, helping the squad to the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Championship.
*The two-time Academic All-Patriot League selection is carrying a 3.94 cumulative GPA as a political science major.
*She is a three-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction and a three-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad.
*Rossman has 10 goals and one assist for 21 points in 42 collegiate games played.
Five All-League Honorees Make Academic Squad
Five of the 12 Academic All-Patriot League Field Hockey honorees were named to one of the All-Patriot League teams when they were announced earlier this week. Devine, Havas, Long and Boston University senior back Alexis Pettisani (human physiology, 3.69 GPA) all earned a spot on the first team. Lafayette senior midfielder Anna Steps (neuroscience, 3.3 GPA) was selected to the second team.
Five Student-Athletes Make Academic Team for the First Time
The 2020-21 Academic All-Patriot League Field Hockey Team has five first-time honorees, including Pettisani, Steps, American junior midfielder Josie Formica (American studies, 3.82 GPA), Boston University sophomore midfielder/back Rachel Borzymowski (biology, 3.92 GPA) and Bucknell sophomore goalkeeper Clara McCormick (English and creative writing, 3.89 GPA).
Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
