Patriot League Field Hockey Players of the Week Announced (4.5.21)

American claims two weekly honors, Bucknell and Holy Cross earn one apiece

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – American captured two of the four Patriot League weekly field hockey awards when the League office announced honors on Monday. Bucknell and Holy Cross each received one weekly accolade.
 
American senior forward Gaby de Kock collected her first Patriot League Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week award after scoring the Eagles’ game-winning goal in a 2-1 double-overtime win over Lafayette. Junior defender Georgia Davies picked up defensive player of the week honors after helping American hold Lafayette to three shots on goal.
 
Bucknell sophomore goalkeeper Clara McCormick collected her second-consecutive Patriot League Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week after making five saves in a 1-0 win over Colgate for her first collegiate shutout.  
 
Holy Cross freshman goalkeeper Brooke Ross was named Patriot League Field Hockey Rookie of the Week after making eight saves in the Crusaders’ 2-1 victory over Lehigh for her first collegiate win in her first collegiate start.  
 
American freshman goalkeeper Bryn Underwood, Bucknell sophomore Kile Mackenzie, Holy Cross sophomore midfielder Gabby Venezia, Lafayette senior midfielder Audrey Sawers and senior midfielder Anna Steps, and Lehigh sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Kahn all received honorable mentions.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gaby de Kock, American, Sr., Forward, Cape Town, South Africa/Reddam House Constantia
*De Kock scored the game-winner in the 75th minute to lift American to a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Lafayette in a rematch of the 2019 Patriot League Championship Game.
*The senior forward also inserted the penalty corner that led to the Eagles’ first goal of the game.
*The goal was her first of the season and fourth of her career.  
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Georgia Davies, American, Jr., Defender, Ipswich, England/Ipswich School
*Davies anchored an American defense that limited Lafayette to three shots on goal and four penalty corners in the Eagles’ 2-1 double-overtime victory.
*The Ipswich, England native played 74 of the total 75 minutes and inserted two penalty corners for American.
*Davies and the Eagles are second in the Patriot League with a 0.84 goals-against average through three games this season.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Clara McCormick, Bucknell, So., Goalkeeper, Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy
*McCormick recorded her second-consecutive goalkeeper of the week honor after making five saves to lead Bucknell to a 1-0 shutout victory against Colgate.
*The Pittsburgh, Pa. native picked up faced 10 shots, five shots on goal, and four penalty corners.
*She recorded her first career shutout against the Raiders and has a .818 save percentage through four games.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brooke Ross, Holy Cross, Fr., Goalkeeper, Winchester, Mass./Winchester
*Ross picked up her first collegiate victory in her first start, making eight saves in the Crusaders’ 2-1 win over Lehigh.
*She made three saves in the fourth quarter to preserve a Crusaders’ win against the Mountain Hawks.
*Ross made five saves in the first half to hold Lehigh scoreless at the half.
 
HONORABLE MENTION
Bryn Underwood, American, Fr., Goalkeeper, Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson
*Underwood made two saves in American’s 2-1 double-overtime victory over Lafayette.
 
Kile Mackenzie, Bucknell, So., Forward, Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood
*Mackenzie scored the game-winning goal in the third quarter of Bucknell’s 1-0 victory over Colgate.
 
Gabby Venezia, Holy Cross, So., Midfielder, Watertown, Mass./Watertown
*Venezia assisted both of the Crusaders’ goals in a 2-1 victory over Lehigh for her first two collegiate points.  
 
Audrey Sawers, Lafayette, Sr., Midfielder, North Vancouver, British Columbia/Handsworth
*Sawers scored a goal in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime in an eventual double-overtime loss to American.   
 
Anna Steps, Lafayette, Sr., Midfielder, Hamburg, Germany/Albert-Schweitzer Gymnasium
*Steps marked American’s Noor Coenen and held her scoreless, while the Leopards’ defense held the Eagles to six shots and four shots on goal.  
 
Maddie Kahn, Lehigh, So., Goalkeeper, Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City
*Kahn made eight saves in a 2-1 loss to Holy Cross. She owns a 0.67 goals-against average, and a .905 save percentage.
