2021 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Major Awards and All-League Selections Announced (5.3.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola Maryland, the overall No. 1 seed in the upcoming Patriot League Championship, collected three of the League’s six major awards with the League office announced postseason honors on Monday. Lehigh received two postseason major awards and Colgate claimed one.
 
Greyhounds’ senior Livy Rosenzweig was voted Patriot League Attacker of the Year, while classmate Kaitlyn Larsson was named goalkeeper of the year. Junior Katie Detwiler received Patriot League Defender of the Year to round out Loyola Maryland’s major awards selections.
 
Lehigh graduate student Sondra Dickey claimed Patriot League Midfielder of the Year honors. Jill Redfern captured Patriot League Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time, and third time at Lehigh. Dickey and Redfern are the first Mountain Hawk major award winners since Allison LaBeau was named offensive player of the year in 2016.
 
Colgate freshman goalkeeper Amelia Cunningham was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year. She is the first Raider student-athlete to earn a major award from the League since Haley O’Hanlon received rookie of the year honors in 2015.
 
Overall, 33 student-athletes were selected to the two All-Patriot League teams with 16 voted onto the first team and 17 making the second team. Loyola Maryland led the way with eight All-League selections, including six on the first team, including Detwiler, Larsson and Rosenzweig. Lehigh placed six on the All-League squad with two on the first-team, including Dickey.
 
Navy and Boston University each had four student-athletes earn All-League recognition, with the Mids placing three on the first team, with the Terriers receiving one first-team honoree. Army West Point and Colgate placed three apiece on the two teams, with the Black Knights garnering three first-team selections. American and Bucknell finished with two honorees apiece, and Holy Cross had one receive accolades.
 
Patriot League women’s lacrosse head coaches voted on All-League teams and major awards and could not vote for their student-athletes or themselves.
 
2021 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Attacker of the Year
Livy Rosenzweig, Loyola Maryland, Sr., Attacker, Katonah, N.Y./Somers
2021 Stats: 24 goals, 37 assists, 61 points, 11 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers, 64 draw controls
*Rosenzweig is a three-time First Team All-Patriot League selection and has been selected among the 25 finalists for the Tewaaraton Award.  
*The two-time Patriot League Attacker of the Week leads the League and ranks second in NCAA DI in assists per game (3.36) while placing second in the League and ninth in the nation in points per game (5.55).
*Among active NCAA DI players, Rosenzweig is fourth in career assists (171) and sixth in career points (306). Her career assists total places her second in Patriot League history, while she ranks sixth on the League’s career points list.
 
2021 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Midfielder of the Year
Sondra Dickey, Lehigh, Gr., Midfielder, Paoli, Pa./Conestoga
2021 Stats: 39 points, 33 goals, 6 assists, 29 ground balls, 26 caused turnovers, 47 draw controls
*Dickey is a three-time First Team All-Patriot League selection and leads the League and is seventh in NCAA DI in caused turnovers per game (2.60).  
*The graduate student midfielder also ranks among the League leaders in goals (33), points (39) and ground balls (29), leading the Mountain Hawks to a 6-1 League record.
*She holds the League record with 15 career Patriot League weekly honors, including seven this season. Dickey was also named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week this season on April 20.
 
2021 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Defender of the Year
Katie Detwiler, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Defender, Devon, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll
2021 Stats: 8 ground balls, 7 caused turnovers, 35 draw controls
*Detwiler anchored a Greyhounds’ defense that led the League and finished fifth in the nation in scoring defense (8.0 goals per game).
*In five Patriot League games, she limited her matchups, including two Tewaaraton Watch list candidates and a preseason honorable mention All-American, to a combined four goals and three assists, allowing her to earn Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week three times.  
*Detwiler is a two-time All-Patriot League selection and was named a Tewaaraton Award Watch List candidate.
 
2021 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Year
Kaitlyn Larsson, Loyola Maryland, Sr., Goalkeeper, Sr., Garden City, N.Y./Garden City
2021 Stats: 11 games started, 562:18 minutes, 8.11 goals-against average, .503 save percentage, 7.00 saves per game
*Larsson leads the Patriot League and is fifth in NCAA DI in goals-against average (8.11), while placing atop the League and 11th in the nation in save percentage (.503).
*The two-time Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week posted a .593 save percentage and 5.13 goals-against average in five League games to help the Greyhounds clinch the overall No. 1 seed.
*She allowed six or fewer goals in four of five games against League opponents.
 
2021 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Year
Amelia Cunningham, Colgate, Fr., Goalkeeper, Rye, N.Y./Rye
2021 Stats: 9 games started; 532:59 minutes, 10.92 goals-against average, .452 save percentage, 8.89 saves per game
*Cunningham, a two-time Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, finished among the League leaders with 8.89 saves per game after starting all nine of Colgate’s games.
*She recorded double-digit saves in five of the Raiders’ seven League games, including 12 saves apiece in victories over Holy Cross and Lafayette.
*Cunningham allowed single-digit goals in four Colgate’s nine games. She held St. Bonaventure to two goals in her collegiate debut, the fewest goals allowed by a Raiders’ goalkeeper since 2013.
 
2021 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year
Jill Redfern, Lehigh
*Redfern earned her fourth Patriot League Coach of the Year honor and her third during her 13-season tenure at Lehigh.
*She led Lehigh to a 7-3 overall finish and 6-1 record in Patriot League play to earn the No. 2 seed in the South Division.
*Redfern’s Mountain Hawks have held opponents to 9.70 goals per game, the 12th-best mark in NCAA DI. They also hold a +4.50 scoring margin, good for second in the League and 22nd in the nation.
 
Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse All-League by the Numbers
Eleven of the 33 All-Patriot League selections are multi-year honorees, highlighted by Dickey and Rosenzweig who both earned first-team accolades for the third time this season. Army West Point senior attacker Jackie Brattan is a two-time first-team All-League pick.
 
American senior Emma Vinall, Army West Point junior Caroline Raymond, Boston University senior midfielder Emily Vervlied, Colgate senior midfielder Noelle Patterson, Lehigh senior goalkeeper Samantha Sagi and Loyola Maryland junior defender Katie Detwiler and senior midfielder Sam Fielder are all two-time All-League selections, who were named to the second team in 2019.
 
Two former Patriot League Rookies of the Year made the team, with Rosenzweig (2018) and Army West Point’s Raymond (2019) both having previously been recognized as the League’s top freshman.
 
Seniors earned 16 spots on the two All-League teams, with seven juniors and seven sophomores garnering accolades. Three graduate students, including Dickey, Colgate midfielder Noelle Patterson and Loyola Maryland defender Meaghan Quinn received honors.
