LEWISBURG, Pa. – First year Rayven Sample has officially been named to the United States Paralympic Track and Field team set to compete in Tokyo this summer. 

The native of Jamestown, N.Y. earned his spot in the 400 after winning the T45 classification at the U.S. Paralympic Trials last weekend in Minneapolis.  Sample placed second in his race against athletes from the T12, T45, T46, and T13 classifications (50.34), which is just off his personal-best mark at Bucknell (50.29) set at the Bucknell Tri-Meet on March 27. 

Sample competed in three events for the Bison at the IC4A Championships (400, 4x100, and the 4x400), and lettered in three sports at Falconer High School (Cross country, track and field, and soccer).  The first year has competed in the 200 as a Bison, and was a member of Falconer High School's NYSPHSAA Division II State Championship 4x400-meter relay.    Sample also ran the opening leg on Bucknell's first-place 4x400-meter relay unit at the Bucknell Quad on April 11. 

One of 15 ambulatory runners to qualify for Tokyo, the track and field/athletics portion of the 2020 Paralympic Games is scheduled to begin on Friday, August 27.
