Patriot League Announces GEICO Women’s Basketball Players of the Week (1.31.22)


BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Boston University junior guard Sydney Johnson was named the Patriot League GEICO Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the first time this season, while Loyola Maryland freshman forward Lex Therien received rookie of the week honors for the fourth week when the League office announced awards on Monday.
 
Bucknell freshman guard Cecelia Collins, Lafayette freshman guard Abby Antognoli, Lehigh sophomore guard Mackenzie Kramer and Navy senior guard Jennifer Coleman earned honorable mention recognition.
 
The Patriot League Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

Patriot League Player of the Week.
Sydney Johnson, Boston University, Jr., G, Powder Springs, Ga./The Lovett School
* Johnson averaged 20 points in BU's 2-0 week as she made the most field goals by a Patriot League player last week.
* On Wednesday against Lafayette, she dropped a game-high 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting, burying four three-pointers while collecting five rebounds and three assists in the 67-57 win.
* On Saturday at Colgate (W, 59-45), she totaled 16 points and six assists to help the Terriers take sole possession of first place in the standings.
* This year, Johnson is averaging a career-best 15.8 points per game. She leads the League in field goal percentage during League play (.453), while she ranks second in that span with 17.6 points per game.
 
Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Lex Therien, Loyola Maryland, Fr., F, Marlton, N.J./Cherokee
* Therien averaged a double-double this week with 17.0 points and 13.5 rebounds per game in two outings, including the Greyhounds' first Patriot League victory since February 2020.
* In Wednesday night's 62-61 win over Colgate, Therien matched her season-high with 23 points along with 14 rebounds. Her final two points were her most impactful as she hit a jumper in the paint with 3.2 seconds left to give Loyola the one-point lead, then blocked a last-second layup from Colgate.
* The freshman followed that performance with an 11-point, 13-rebound outing on Saturday against Bucknell for her ninth double-double of the season.

Cecelia Collins, Bucknell, Fr., G, Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep
* Collins totaled 20 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds in a 2-0 week for Bucknell.
* Collins netted 11 points in Bucknell's 53-43 road win at Navy, scoring in double figures for a 14th time this season.
 
Abby Antognoli, Lafayette, Fr., G, Bay Head, N.J./St. Rose
* Antognoli totaled 24 points in the Leopards’ two games against Boston U and Army.
* The freshman recorded a team-high 15 points on Saturday at Army to go with a career-high six field goals. She also tied her career-high four rebounds and four assists.
 
Mackenzie Kramer, Lehigh, So., G, Saint Michael, Minn./Saint Michael Albertville
* For the week, Kramer averaged 19.5 points per game, shooting 59.1 percent (13-for-22) from the field and 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from beyond-the-arc.
* The sophomore notched a team-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from the field with a trio of triples against the Black Knights on the road.
* In the 67-62 victory versus Holy Cross, she scored a team-high 18 points, going 5-of-9 from the 3-point line and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.
 
Jennifer Coleman, Navy, Sr., G, Richmond, Va./Highland Springs
* During her two games last week, the senior guard averaged 19.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals over 39.0 minutes per contest.
* Coleman started the week with 19 points and 10 rebounds against Bucknell on Wednesday before closing with 19 points and 11 boards at American on Saturday.
* Coleman currently ranks third in the nation with 15 double-doubles and has reached the double-double metric in six straight games.
