Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-League Team Announced (5.4.22)

Loyola Maryland’s Elli Kluegel claims honor for second-consecutive season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola Maryland graduate student midfielder Elli Kluegel was named the 2022 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year when the League office announced honors on Wednesday. She was also one of the 14 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
 
Kluegel (emerging media/4.0 graduate GPA) is the reigning Patriot League Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year, in addition to a two-time women’s lacrosse scholar-athlete of the year. She is also one of eight women’s lacrosse student-athletes in League history to earn three Academic All-League honors.
 
Four women’s lacrosse student-athletes garnered Academic All-League recognition for the second-consecutive season, including American graduate student midfielder/defender Sarah Boney (health promotion management, 4.0 grad. GPA), Loyola Maryland graduate students Sam Fiedler (business admin./4.0 grad. GPA) and Kaitlyn Larsson (business admin./4.0 grad. GPA), and senior Katie Detwiler (business admin./3.67 GPA).

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year winner for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out during the summer. One male and one female are selected for the honors.
 
2022 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Elli Kluegel, Loyola Maryland, Gr. Midfielder, Fairfax, Va./Robinson
*Kluegel earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors for the second straight season after recording 21 points on 19 goals and two assists to help Loyola Maryland claim the League’s regular-season title.
*She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in emerging media with a 4.0 cumulative GPA after earning her bachelor’s degree in biology with a 4.0 GPA from Loyola Maryland last May.
*The Fairfax, Va. native leads the Patriot League and ranks eighth in NCAA DI with a .603 shooting percentage, while part of the Greyhounds’ transition team ranked sixth in the nation with a .915 clearing percentage.
*Kluegel is a three-time CoSIDA All-District honoree and 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Eleven All-League Honorees Make Academic Squad
Eleven of the 14 Academic All-Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Team members were selected to one of the two All-Patriot League teams. Loyola Maryland graduate student Livy Rosenzweig (clinical professional counseling, 3.75 grad. GPA) and senior Jillian Wilson (business admin./3.645 GPA) were first-team honorees and the Patriot League Attacker and Midfielder of the Year, respectively. The Greyhounds’ Detwiler and Larsson were selected defensive player and goalkeeper of the year, respectively, for the second-consecutive season.
 
Loyola’s Fielder, Lehigh junior attack Gabby Schneider (psychology, 3.51 GPA) and Navy senior attack Reagan Roelofs (operations research, 3.70 GPA) joined the four Greyhound major award winners on the All-Patriot League First Team. Kluegel, Army West Point senior defender Ceara Sweeney (psychology, 3.54 GPA), Bucknell junior defender Ella Payer (markets, innovation & design/3.79 GPA) and Colgate junior midfielder Cara O’Reilly (economics, 3.68 GPA) were all named to the second team.
 
Nine Student-Athletes Collect Academic Honors for the First Team
The 2022 Academic All-Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse team recognized nine first-time honorees. O’Reilly, Payer, Roelofs, Rosenzweig, Schneider, Sweeney, and Wilson made their first academic squad. Boston University junior midfielder/attack Jennifer Barry (behavior and health/3.58 GPA), Lafayette junior midfielder Katie Chiasson (biology, 3.99 GPA) also garnered spots on the team after successful seasons on the field and in the classroom.
 
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom. The awards are voted on by Patriot League women’s lacrosse sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
