Loyola Maryland Captures 2022 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Title (5.7.22)

Greyhounds claim third-straight title; Rosenzweig collects second championship MVP award

BALTIMORE – Top-seeded Loyola Maryland defeated No. 3 Navy, 15-8, to capture their third-consecutive Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Championship behind six points from two-time Patriot League Championship MVP Livy Rosenzweig.
 
Rosenzweig, the two-time Patriot League Attacker of the Year, finished with one goal and five assists, while senior Jillian Wilson, the Patriot League Midfielder of the Year, scored a team-leading five goals during the rainy championship game at Loyola’s Ridley Athletic Complex. Rosenzweig and Wilson were joined on the 2022 Patriot League All-Tournament Team by teammates Katie Detwiler (Gr., D) and Kaitlyn Larsson (Gr., GK), the Patriot League’s Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Year, respectively.
 
Navy senior attack Reagan Roelofs finished with two goals and seven draw controls to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team, along with senior defenders Christine Fiore and Alexis Bell.
 
Army West Point junior defender Evelyn Pickett and senior attack Caroline Raymond made the All-Tournament team with Lehigh sophomore goalkeeper Hayley Hunt and senior defender Claire Keller.
 
The Greyhounds will learn their postseason fate when the NCAA DI Women’s Lacrosse Championship Field is announced during the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Selection Show on Sunday, May 8 at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.

BALTIMORE – Graduate student attack Livy Rosenzweig posted a game-high six points on one goal and five assists, while senior midfielder Jillian Wilson scored a game-high five goals to lead No. 1 Loyola Maryland to a 15-8 victory over No. 3 Navy to win the 2022 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
*Rosenzweig also won eight draw controls and added two ground balls and one caused turnover to help earn tournament MVP honors.
*Graduate student goalkeeper Kaitlyn Larsson made nine saves and allowed eight goals to earn the victory for the Greyhounds.
*Navy senior midfielder Kasey Dietzel led the Mids with three goals and one assist. Senior attack Reagan Roelofs had two goals and seven draw controls, while junior attack Charlotte Ryan scored a pair of goals.
*The Greyhounds rushed out to a 5-1 lead by the end of the first quarter with two goals apiece from Wilson, the Patriot League Midfielder of the Year, and graduate student midfielder Elli Kluegel. Larsson made three first-quarter saves to help stifle the Mids’ offense.
*Loyola Maryland continued to roll in the second quarter, with graduate student midfielder Sam Fiedler and Wilson scoring slightly more than a minute apart to extend the Greyhounds’ lead to 7-1.
*Navy senior midfielder Kasey Dietzel ended the Greyhounds’ six-goal run with her second goal of the game early in the second quarter.
*Patriot League Rookie of the Year Georgia Latch scored consecutive goals in the second quarter, her second and third goals of the game, to help the Greyhounds take a 9-3 lead into the break.
*Wilson and Fiedler scored less than one minute apart early in the third quarter. Then, Navy scored three of the following four goals, with senior midfielder Gil Eby, Roelofs and junior attack Charlotte Ryan all finding the back of the net to make the score 12-6 going into the final frame.
*Dietzel opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with her third goal to bring Navy within five goals, at 12-7.
*Wilson’s fifth goal of the game snapped Navy’s 3-0 run at the 10:19 mark in the fourth quarter, but Navy’s Ryan answered four minutes later to keep the Mids within five goals.
*The Greyhounds scored the game’s final two goals to seal their third-straight title and sixth Patriot League Championship since joining the League in 2014.
