Loyola Maryland’s Aidan Olmstead Named Patriot League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Olmstead helps Greyhounds sweep year-end scholar-athlete honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola Maryland men’s lacrosse student-athlete Aidan Olmstead was named the 2022 Patriot League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year following a vote conducted by the athletics communications staff from each of the League’s member institutions.

Olmstead is the fifth different Loyola Maryland student-athlete to claim Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, joining Joe Fletcher (men’s lacrosse, 2014), Elli Kluegel (women’s lacrosse, 2021-22), Franz Rassman (men’s basketball, 2016) and Kristen Yanchoris (women’s lacrosse, 2019).

The graduate student attackman helped the Greyhounds become the fourth school in Patriot League history to sweep the year-end scholar-athlete of the year honors, with women’s lacrosse’s Elli Kluegel receiving her second-straight female scholar-athlete of the year honor. Bucknell accomplished the feat most recently in 2018 and 2000. Navy (2007) and Colgate (1994) also swept the awards.

The award is presented annually to one female and one male Patriot League student-athlete. Earlier this year, the candidates for the honor were named the scholar-athlete of the year in their respective sports. For the 2021-22 academic year, there were 23 candidates from 24 Patriot League sports.
