Patriot League Field Hockey Players of the Week Announced (9.26.22)

American collects two weekly honors, Holy Cross and Lehigh receive one apiece

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – American claimed two of the four Patriot League Field Hockey weekly honors when the League office announced them on Monday. Holy Cross and Lafayette claimed one award apiece.
 
American senior defender Charllene Boshoff was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the Eagles’ defense in a pair of shutout wins and totaling four goals in four games. Junior Bryn Underwood captured Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the fourth time this season by making five saves in two shutout victories.
 
Holy Cross sophomore forward Meggan Fourie captured Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after totaling nine points on four goals and one assist in three games.
 
Lafayette freshman goalkeeper Raffi Fragomeni captured Patriot League Rookie of the Week after posting an .826 save percentage with 19 saves, including 10 in an upset victory over No. 7 Princeton.
 
Boston University senior defender Rachel Borzymowski and senior goalkeeper Caroline Kelly, Bucknell sophomore forward Lily Neilson, Lafayette senior forward Molly McAndrew and senior defender Simone Hefting and Lehigh senior forward Sarah Bonthuis, senior goalkeeper Maddie Kahn and junior defender Lotte Smorenburg all received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
 
BU’S STARR EARNS 500TH CAREER VICTORY
Boston University Head Coach Sally Starr recorded her 500th career victory in the Terriers’ 3-0 decision over Holy Cross on Saturday. Starr became the sixth NCAA Division I field hockey coach to join the 500-win club.

*Fourie totaled nine points on four goals and one assist in three games to help Holy Cross earn wins against Merrimack and Davidson.
*The sophomore forward scored two goals in the Crusaders’ 7-3 win over the Warriors on Tuesday.
*She posted two goals and one assist in a 4-1 victory over Davidson on Sunday.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Charllene Boshoff, American, Sr., Defender, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa/St. John’s D.S.G
*Boshoff anchored an American defense that allowed just five shots on goal in shutout victories against Colgate (8-0) and Queens University of Charlotte (5-0).
*The senior defender scored three goals against the Raiders in an 8-0 win to improve to 2-0 in League play.
*She scored one goal on a penalty stroke in the Eagles’ 5-0 win against the Royals.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Bryn Underwood, American, Jr., Goalkeeper, Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson
*Underwood recorded two shutouts, making five saves in American’s victories against Colgate and Queens College of Charlotte.
*The junior goalkeeper made three saves in an 8-0 shutout victory against Colgate on Saturday.
*She made two saves in the Eagles’ 2-0 win against the Royals on Sunday.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Raffi Fragomeni, Lafayette, Fr., Goalkeeper, Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes
*Fragomeni recorded an .826 save percentage with 19 saves in two games, including an overtime win against No. 7 Princeton on Sunday.
*The Mountain Lakes, N.J. native made 10 saves and allowed two goals in the Leopards’ 3-2 overtime upset victory over the No. 7 Tigers.
*She made nine saves and allowed two goals in a 2-1 loss at Bucknell on Friday.
 
HONORABLE MENTION
Rachel Borzymowski, Boston University, Sr., Defender, Fallston, Md./Notre Dame Prep
*Borzymowski scored two goals in the Terriers’ 3-0 victory over Holy Cross to help Boston University improve to 2-0 in League play. She helped anchor a BU defense that recorded its first shutout of the year.  
 
Caroline Kelly, Boston University, Sr., Goalkeeper, Malvern, Pa./Episcopal
Kelly posted an .850 save percentage and made 17 saves in three matches, including a shutout victory over Holy Cross on Saturday. She made a season-high 12 saves and allowed three goals in a loss against No. 14 Harvard.

*Neilson scored her Patriot League-leading ninth goal in a 2-1 victory over Lafayette on Friday to help the Bison improve to 2-0 in League play.  
 
Molly McAndrew, Lafayette, Sr., Forward, Cherry Hill, N.J./Paul VI
*McAndrew assisted the game-winning goal in Lafayette’s 3-2 overtime win against No. 7 Princeton on Sunday. She also scored one goal in the Leopards’ loss against Bucknell on Friday

*Hefting scored the game-winning goal in Lafayette’s 3-2 overtime victory over No. 7 Princeton on Sunday.

*Bonthuis scored the overtime game-winner in Lehigh’s 1-0 victory over LIU on Sunday. She is tied for second in the Patriot League with seven goals.
 
Maddie Kahn, Lehigh, Sr., Goalkeeper, Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City
*Kahn made five saves over two games, including her first shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over LIU.
 
Lotte Smorenburg, Lehigh, Jr., Defender, Rotterdam, Netherlands/Wolfert Van Borselen Bilingual
*Smorenburg led a Lehigh defensive unit that allowed one goal and eight shots in two victories. She scored her fourth career goal in a 3-1 win against Merrimack. Lehigh allowed two shots on goal in a 1-0 win vs. LIU.
