No. 1 Colgate Faces No. 3 American 2023 Patriot League Volleyball Championship Match (11.17.23)

HAMILTON, N.Y. – No. 1 Colgate will play host to No. 3 American in the 2023 Patriot League Volleyball Championship Match at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, N.Y. on Sunday.
 
Coverage will begin at 2 p.m. on ESPN+ with Cory Nidoh and Patriot League Multimedia Journalist Maria Trivelpiece on the call.

The Raiders defeated No. 5 Navy, 3-1, while No. 3 American earned a 3-0 win over No. 2 Army West Point in Friday’s semifinal round.

The Eagles will play for their 17th Patriot League Championship title and first since 2019. Colgate enters the championship match for the fourth consecutive year and looks for its third-straight title.
 
The last time American and Colgate met in the championship match was in 2021 when Colgate won, 3-1, in Hamilton, N.Y.

Hamilton, N.Y. – American is headed to the Patriot League Volleyball Championship match after defeating No. 2 Army West Point, 3-0, in Friday’s semifinal round.
* The Eagles were led by player of the year, graduate student Zeynep Uzen, who finished with a match-high 14 kills and 10 digs to go with a .306 hitting percentage for her 13th double-double of the season.
* Junior defensive specialist Bridget Javitch led all players with 22 digs, while teammate freshman outside hitter Holly Hopkins recorded 10 kills, six digs and two aces for American.
* Setter of the year American junior Esma Sipahi registered 32 assists.
* The win marked the Eagles’ first 20-win season since 2019.
* Army junior setter Diana Ethridge had 12 assists, while senior libero Riley Parchment finished with 15 digs.
* Senior middle blocker Paige Fixemer and senior outside hitter Savannah Bray had seven kills each for the Black Knights.

Hamilton, N.Y. – Colgate earned a 3-1 win over No. 5 Navy on Friday night to advance to the championship match.
* Colgate won the first two sets (25-12, 25-23) and Navy took the third set (25-22) to force a fourth set, eventually won by Colgate, 26-24.
* Junior outside hitter Abby Shadwick finished with 14 kills, eight digs and one block assist for Colgate.
* Senior libero Taylor Cigna led all players with 16 digs to go with six assists and two aces.
* Colgate junior setter Sydney Jones registered 30 assists, while freshman setter Claire Dewine had 15 assists.
* Junior middle blocker Greta Hoogstra tied her season-high with seven block assists.
* With the win, the Raiders are 8-0 against Navy in the postseason.
* Navy senior outside hitter Jamie Llewellyn capped her career with a double-double (15 kills, 10 digs).
* Senior setter Averi Miller added 17 assists and 12 digs, while junior Hannah Hoover also had 12 digs.
* Freshman setter Arleigh Hanson contributed 20 assists for the Mids.
