Patriot League 2023 PenFed Credit Union Men’s Basketball Championship Field Set (2.25.23)

Colgate, Navy, Lehigh and Army West Point set as top four seeds

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League men’s basketball regular season concluded on Saturday, setting the field for the 2023 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship. First-round action begins on Tuesday, Feb. 28
 
Colgate clinched the No. 1 seed in the championship for the fourth time in the last five seasons. The Raiders enter the tournament on a six-game win streak after breaking the Patriot League’s single-season record with 17 League victories. They will host the winner of No. 9 Holy Cross at No. 8 Loyola Maryland.
 
Navy earned the No. 2 seed in the championship for the second-consecutive season. The Midshipmen had their seven-game win streak snapped in the regular-season finale against Colgate. Navy will host the winner of No. 7 American versus No. 10 Bucknell.
 
No. 3 Lehigh hosts No. 6 Lafayette (7 p.m. ET), while No. 4 Army West Point welcomes No. 5 Boston University (6 p.m. ET) in the quarterfinal round of the 2023 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship on Thursday, March 2. BOSTON – Graduate student forward Walter Whyte recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead Boston University to a 59-56 win over Lehigh in the regular-season finale.
*Junior guard Miles Brewster added 13 points and seven boards for the Terriers, as BU controlled the boards, holding a 44-31 advantage.
*Lehigh sophomore guard Keith Higgins Jr. and Tyler Whitney-Sidney finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
*Senior guard Evan Taylor contributed 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Mountain Hawks.

*Timmerman connected on 6-of-8 from the floor for 16 points, adding 10 rebounds to post his seventh double-double of the season for the Bison.
*Bucknell senior guard Xander Rice dished out a game-high seven assists to go with eight points.
*Lafayette sophomore center Justin Vander Baan posted his second double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Vander Baan connected on 9-of-14 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.
*Freshman forward Josh Rivera added 21 points, four rebounds and three assists for the Leopards.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior forward Chris Mann led four Black Knights in double-figures with 18 points in Army West Point’s 80-65 win over Holy Cross at Hart Center.
*Mann connected on 7-of-11 from the field for his 18 points and added eight rebounds, while junior guard Jalen Rucker contributed 14 points, five assists and four rebounds for the Black Knights.
*Army West Point freshmen Ethan Roberts and Coleton Benson chipped in 15 and 11 points, respectively.
*Holy Cross senior forward Gerrale Gates recorded his League-leading 12th double-double of the season with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. He also registered five assists and two blocked shots.
*Junior guards Joe Octave and Bo Montgomery finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Senior forward Keegan Records matched a career-high with 25 points to lead Colgate to a 64-60 victory over Navy to break the Patriot League single-season record with 17 League victories.
*Colgate’s 17 League wins breaks the Patriot League single-season record of 16, shared by the 2021-22 Raiders and the 2017-18 Bucknell squad.
*Records connected on 12-of-17 from the floor and pulled down nine rebounds to snap the Mids’ seven-game win streak.
*Freshman guard Braeden Smith added 11 points and seven rebounds, while junior forward Sam Thomson pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds.  
*Navy senior guard Patrick Dorsey scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half to match his career high. He connected on 4-of-8 from long distance.
*Senior forward Daniel Deaver posted his third double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while senior forward Tyler Nelson registered his second double-double with 10 points and 12 boards.

*Perry finished with 22 points n 6-of-13 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range, while Jones came off the bench to score 21 points and dish out four assists in the Greyhounds’ comeback win.
*Junior forward Alonso Faure added 16 points and nine boards, and graduate student guard Jaylin Andrews finished with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals for Loyola Maryland
*American junior Matt Rogers posted his third double-double of the season with game-highs of 24 points and 16 boards.
*Sophomore guard Elijah Stephens contributed 16 points and five assists, while juniors Johnny O’Neil and Colin Smalls chipped in 10 points apiece.
