No. 1 Boston University Welcomes No. 2 Holy Cross for 2023 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Basketball Championship Game (3.11.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. –  The 2023 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Basketball Championship game between No. 1 Boston University and No. 2 Holy Cross will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, March 12.

Jason Knapp and Julianne Viani-Braen will be on the call as coverage begins at noon. 

The Terriers defeated No. 5 Army West Point, 84-68, as they make their second Patriot League title game appearance. The Crusaders defended their home court with a 71-54 win over No. 3 Lehigh.

The last time BU and Holy Cross met in the Patriot League postseason was in the 2018-19 quarterfinal round when Holy Cross recorded a 72-70 win.

Boston University and Holy Cross in the Championship Game
Boston University is making its second appearance in the Patriot League Women’s Basketball Championship Game in the last three seasons while Holy Cross will be playing for a League title for the 19th time. BU’s lone championship game appearance was in 2021 when they fell to Lehigh. Holy Cross last won the League title in 2007. The Crusaders’ most recent trip to the title game was in the 2013-14 season against Army West Point. Holy Cross will look for its 12th Patriot League title on Sunday.

Game One (Feb. 15): At Boston University 66, Holy Cross 59 – Boston University outscored Holy Cross 33-18, in the second half as the Terriers earned at least a share of the Patriot League regular-season title. BU had four players score in double-figures; senior guard Sydney Johnson (17), sophomore guard Alex Giannaros (13), senior guard Maggie Pins (13), and junior forward Caitlin Weimar (11). Holy Cross junior forward Janelle Allen (11), junior guard Cara McCormack (11), senior guard Addisyn Cross (10), and freshman guard Kaitlyn Flanagan (10) all scored in double-figures.
Game Two (March 1): at Holy Cross 57, Boston University 53 – Holy Cross sophomore forward Lindsay Berger netted a career-high 22 points to go with four boards as the Crusaders snapped a BU 17-game winning streak. Junior forward Janelle Allen had nine points, six rebounds and five assists, while junior guard Bronagh Power-Cassidy added eight points. BU junior forward Caitlin Weimar and senior guard Maggie Pina scored 11 points.
