DES MOINES, Iowa – No. 15 Colgate will meet No. 2 Texas in the First Round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday night at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
HOW TO WATCH/LISTEN: The Raiders and Longhorns will meet for the first time when the programs take the court on Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Live coverage will begin at 7:25 p.m. ET on TBS with Brian Anderson, Jim Jackson and Allie LaForce on the call. Westwood One will carry a live national radio broadcast with Jason Benetti and Robbie Hummel on the call from Des Moines.
COLGATE HISTORY IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT: Colgate makes its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in five years and sixth in program history. The Raiders lost to No. 3 Wisconsin last season after being eliminated by No. 3 Arkansas and No. 2 Tennessee in 2021 and 2019, respectively. The Raiders are making their third-consecutive tournament bid. They went to back-to-back tournaments in 1995 and 1996. Since then, Bucknell has gone to consecutive tournaments twice, making the field in 2017 and 2018 in addition to the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Navy (1997, 1998), Lafayette (1999, 2000), Holy Cross (2001, 2002, 2003) and American (2008, 2009) have all made consecutive NCAA appearances. The Raiders’ first two trips to the Big Dance were led by eventual NBA Draft selection Adonal Foyle (1997/1st Rd./8th Pick/Golden State Warriors). Foyle and the Raiders fell to No. 1 Kansas (82-68) in 1995 and No. 1 Connecticut (68-59) in 1996.
PATRIOT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT VICTORIES: Holy Cross defeated fellow No. 16 seed Southern, 59-55, during the First Four in Dayton to open the 2016 NCAA Tournament.
•No. 15 Lehigh upset No. 2 Duke in the 2012 NCAA Tournament Round of 64 behind 30 points, six assists and six rebounds from C.J. McCollum.
•Charles Lee and Kevin Bettencourt combined for 42 points to lead the No. 9 Bison over No. 8 Arkansas, 59-55, during the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
•Bucknell won the League’s first NCAA Tournament contest, as Kevin Bettencourt’s 19 points led the No. 14 Bison over No. 3 Kansas, 64-63, in the first round in 2005.

ABOUT COLGATE: The Raiders make their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last five years behind one of the most efficient offenses in NCAA DI. Colgate leads the nation in 3-point field-goal percentage (40.8), second in effective field-goal percentage (58.5), field-goal percentage (51.4) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.82).
*Colgate Sr. F Keegan Records (13.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg) is fourth in NCAA DI with a 67.5 field-goal percentage.
*Raiders’ Sr. G Tucker Richardson (13.9 ppg, 5.8 apg, 5.2 rpg, 2.1 spg) earned Patriot League Player, Defensive Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year in addition to Championship MVP honors after recording a triple-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists. Richardson is a finalist for the Lou Henson National Mid-Major Player of the Year.
*Fr. G Braeden Smith (11.8 ppg, 4.5 apg) is a finalist for the Kyle Macy Award, presented annually to the top freshman in NCAA DI.
*Colgate Head Coach Matt Langel is a four-time Patriot League Coach of the Year and tied Holy Cross’s Ralph Willard with a record four Patriot League titles.
ABOUT TEXAS: The Big-12 champion Longhorns enter the NCAA Tournament with their highest seed since earning the No. 2 seed in 2008. Texas is riding a four-game win streak, including three games in the Big 12 Championship.
*They held Oklahoma State, No. 22 TCU and No. 3 Kansas to an average of 54.3 points per game on 34.9-percent shooting from the field and 26.3-percent from beyond the arc during the championship.
*Sr. F Dylan Disu was the MVP of the Big 12 Championship, averaging 14.7 points and 8.3 boards during the three-game stretch.
*Graduate student guard Marcus Carr (15.9 ppg, 4.0 apg, 1.8 spg) has led the Longhorns and is a finalist for the Lute Olson National Player of the Year.
*Interim Head Coach Rodney Terry is a semifinalist for the Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year after guiding Texas to a 17-7 record since taking over the program in December.
