Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced (5.2.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy claimed three Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field weekly awards when the League announced honors on Tuesday. Lehigh collected two and Boston University received one weekly honor.
 
Navy’s Molly Mangan was named Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week after posting a time of 52.62 in the 400-meter leg of Navy’s DMR at the Penn Relays. Navy junior Tom Fodor won the men’s track athlete of the week after posting a time of 9:00.21 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the third-best time in the League.
 
Lehigh senior Ian Scott collected Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after placing second in the triple jump at the Penn Relays leaping a League best 14.6m. Fellow Mountain Hawk sophomore Grace Aggen was named women’s field athlete of the week, after finishing second in the discus with a mark of 47.96m at the Covert Classic.
 
Navy freshman Sophie Compton was named Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week after running a 2:11.62 leg for Navy’s 4x800m relay that finished first at the Penn Relays. Boston University freshman Parker Schneider won the men’s rookie of the week for the second time this season after finishing with a time of 3:46.26 in the 1,500 meters, the sixth-best mark in the League this season.
 
Army West Point’s Kayley Ragazzini and Cameron Smith, Boston University’s Matt Mason and Cole Tucker, Bucknell’s Wade Shomper, Lehigh’s Kerem Ayhan and Savannah Beavers, and Navy’s Braden Presser and Autumn Nicholas all received honorable mentions for their performances last week.

*Fodor placed 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Penn Relays with an IC4A-qualifiyng time of 9:00.21.
*His time is the third-best in the Patriot League this season.
 
Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

*Mangan ran the 400-meter leg for Navy’s DMR that finished third at the Penn relays.
*Her time of 52.62 would rank as the fastest 400-meter time in the Patriot League this season.

*Scott finished second at the Penn Relays with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 14.60m in the triple jump.

*Aggen earned second in the discus with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 47.69m at the Covert Classic.

*Schneider placed 16th out of 42 runners in the 1,500 meters at the Penn Relays with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:46.26.
*His time is the sixth-fastest in the Patriot League this season.
 
Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week
Sophie Compton, Navy, Fr., Distance, San Diego, Calif. / Point Loma
*Compton ran the second leg of Navy’s 4x800m relay that finished first at the Penn Relays with an ECAC-qualifying time of 8:48.17.
*Their time is the fastest in the Patriot League and the second-best time in Navy history.

*Shomper earned first at the Maroon & Gold Invitational in the shot put with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 16.66m that is fourth-best in the Patriot League and ranks third in Bucknell’s history.

*Ayhan finished first in the 800 meters at the Covert Classic with an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:50.14. His time ranks fourth in the League.

*Beavers earned first at the Covert Classic in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:58.92, 47 seconds faster than the second-place finisher and the sixth best in the League.

*Nicholas placed 10th in the hammer throw at the Penn Relays with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 57.71m, the fourth-best in the League.
