ALBANY, N.Y. – Fordham dropped its season opener at Albany, 34-13, as the Great Danes scored the final 13 points while holding the Rams scoreless in the fourth quarter.
*Rams’ sophomore QB C.J. Montes completed 18-for-31 passes for 198 yards and one touchdown pass in his Fordham debut.
*Graduate student WR MJ Wright caught a team-high six passes for 61 yards, and junior RB Julius Loughridge rushed for 48 yards on 12 carries for the Rams’ offense.
*Fordham senior DB Nahil Perkins finished with five tackles and five pass breakups, and sophomore LB Marc Pretto added a team-high six tackles.
*Albany QB Reese Poffenbarger opened the scoring with a 6-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter before Rams’ Sr. PK Brandon Peskin connected on field goals of 30 and 26 yards to bring his team within one point, at 7-6.
*The Great Danes found the end zone twice in the final 91 seconds of the first half, sandwiched around a Rams’ fumble to build a 21-6 lead at the break.
*Fordham opened the third quarter with a 9-play, 76-yard scoring drive, with Montes completing a 24-yard touchdown pass to senior WR Cole Thornton to cut the deficit to eight points at 21-13.
*The Great Danes scored the final 13 points, including Poffenbarger’s fourth touchdown pass of the game in the fourth quarter.
*The Rams host Wagner on Saturday, Sept. 2, to open their 2023 home slate at Jack Coffey Field.
