Patriot League Football Players of the Week Announced (10.28.24)

Mosey, DeNucci, Porto and Green receive weekly honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Holy Cross and Lehigh split the four Patriot League football weekly awards when the League office announced honors on Monday.
 
Holy Cross junior wide receiver Max Mosey earned Patriot League Football Offensive Player of the Week after catching a touchdown pass and rushing for another score in their 34-28 win at Lafayette to remain unbeaten in League play.
 
Crusaders’ sophomore placekicker Daniel Porto received Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week. He booted a Holy Cross program-record 53-yard field goal, the longest in the Patriot League this season.  
 
Lehigh graduate student linebacker Mike DeNucci was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after posting 11 tackles and career-highs of 4.0 tackles for loss (TFLs) and 3.0 sacks in the Mountain Hawks’ 33-19 win against Fordham.
 
Mountain Hawks’ first-year running back Jaden Green claimed Patriot League Football Rookie of the Week after rushing for a career-high 147 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in a win against the Rams.
 
Bucknell freshman running back Tariq Thomas and sophomore linebacker Gavin Willis, Georgetown freshman running back Savion Hart, senior placekicker/punter Patrick Ryan and sophomore linebacker GianCarlo Rufo, Holy Cross sophomore cornerback Eli Thompson and Lafayette junior running back Jamar Curtis all received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
 
The Patriot League football players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s football athletics communications contacts, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Max Mosey, Holy Cross, Jr., WR, Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin
*Mosey caught a touchdown pass and rushed for another score to lead Holy Cross to a 34-28 victory at Lafayette to improve to 3-0 in League play.
*The junior wide receiver caught four passes for 74 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter.
*He also added two carries for 28 yards and a four-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mike DeNucci, Lehigh, Gr., LB, Denville, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional
*DeNucci recorded 11 tackles with career-highs of 4.0 TFLs and 3.0 sacks in Lehigh’s 33-19 victory over Fordham.
*The graduate student linebacker led a Mountain Hawks’s defense that held Fordham to just 226 yards of total offense, with 136 yards through three quarters to allow Lehigh to build a 33-3 lead.
*His three sacks are a single-game high in the Patriot League this season.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Daniel Porto, Holy Cross, So., PK, Orlando, Fla./Horizon
*Porto connected on a 53-yard field goal in the second quarter of Holy Cross’s 34-28 victory at Lafayette for the longest field goal in Holy Cross program history and the longest in the Patriot League this season.
*The sophomore placekicker also connected on a 24-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to help seal the Crusaders’ win.
*He was a perfect 4-for-4 on PATs.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL ROOKIE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jaden Green, Lehigh, Fy., RB, San Francisco, Calif./Junipero Serra
*Green rushed for a career-high 147 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in Lehigh’s 33-19 win against Fordham.
*The first-year running back put the Mountain Hawks in front in the first quarter with a 44-yard touchdown run, his longest of the season.
*He helped set the tone early for Lehigh, with 104 of his 147 rushing yards coming in the first quarter.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Tariq Thomas, Bucknell, Fr., RB, Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central
*Thomas rushed for a career-high 145 yards and two touchdowns in Bucknell’s 21-20 loss at Georgetown on Saturday. The freshman running back scored on runs of 15 and 27 yards in the first quarter to give the Bison an early 14-0 lead.
 
Gavin Willis, Bucknell, So., LB, Louisville, Ky./Ballard
*Willis led Bucknell with 13 tackles, his fourth double-digit tackle performance of the season, in a 21-20 loss at Georgetown. The sophomore linebacker added 1.0 TFL and a pass breakup.
 
Savion Hart, Georgetown, Fr., RB, Minneapolis, Minn./St. Thomas Academy
*Hart led Georgetown with 112 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in a 21-20 victory over Bucknell to improve to 2-1 in League play. The freshman running back sprinted for a career-long 40-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to cut Bucknell’s 14-0 lead in half.
 
Patrick Ryan, Georgetown, Sr., P/K, Randolph, N.J./Delbarton
*Ryan connected on all three of his PAT attempts and averaged 42.3 yards per punt on six punts, including a long of 52 yards in Georgetown’s 21-20 victory against Bucknell. He landed one punt inside the Bison 20-yard line.  
 
GianCarlo Rufo, Georgetown, So., LB, Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou School
*Rufo led Georgetown’s defense with five tackles, four solo, and one sack for a loss of five yards in a 21-20 win against Bucknell. The sophomore linebacker recorded his sack with 44 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter on a fourth down play to cause a turnover on downs, sealing the Hoyas’ victory.
 
Eli Thompson, Holy Cross, So., CB, Rome, Ga./Darlington School
*Thompson finished with five tackles, 1.0 TFL and four pass breakups to help Holy Cross remain undefeated in League play with a 34-28 win at Lafayette. In the third quarter, the sophomore cornerback broke up a pass in the end zone and recorded a TFL on a third down to force a field-goal attempt that was blocked.
 
Jamar Curtis, Lafayette, Jr., RB, Waldorf, Md./St. John’s College
*Curtis rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries in Lafayette’s 34-28 loss against Holy Cross. The junior running back had a 30-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to help bring the Leopards within seven points after trailing by as many as 21 points. He recorded his 13th career 100-yard game.
