Patriot League Women’s Soccer Players of the Week Announced (10.28.24)

Deda, Goldman, Heaven, Strohman and Vozar receive weekly honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – American collected two of the five weekly awards, while Army West Point, Bucknell, and Navy each received one honor when the League office announced the women’s soccer awards on Monday.

Navy junior midfielder/forward Marlee Heaven earned Patriot League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring the game-winning goal in the 84th minute of the Mids’ 1-0 victory.

For the second time this season, Bucknell senior midfielder Teresa Deda was named Patriot League Women’s Soccer Midfielder of the Week after recording three points in the Bison’s 2-1 win at Lafayette.

American sophomore defender Bella Vozar scored American’s first goal in a 2-2 draw against Boston University to earn Patriot League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Army West Point senior Sage Strohman collected Patriot League Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the second time this year after notching her seventh shutout of the season.

American freshman forward Nariah Goldman was selected as the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week after scoring her first career goal in the Eagles’ 2-2 draw against Boston University.

Army West Point senior forward Kaelan Bradley, junior midfielder Brigid Duffy and freshman defender Grace Pohlidal, Boston University junior midfielder Giulianna Gianino, Lehigh sophomore forward Aminah Baruwa and Navy freshman goalkeeper Natasha Stramrood garnered honorable mentions for their performances last week.  

The Patriot League women’s soccer players of the week are selected in a vote by League head coaches, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

Patriot League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Marlee Heaven, Navy, Jr., Midfielder/Forward, Rockville, Md./Montgomery
*Heaven delivered in the clutch for Navy on Friday night, as the junior tallied the game-winning goal in the 84th minute of the Mids’ 1-0 victory over Holy Cross.
*The Rockville, Md. native ranks fourth in the Patriot League in game-winning goals (3), is tied for sixth in goals (6), and 11th in points (12).

Patriot League Women’s Soccer Midfielder of the Week
Teresa Deda, Bucknell, Sr., Midfielder, New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle
*Deda tallied three points in Bucknell’s 2-1 road win at Lafayette on Saturday, as the senior assisted on the Bison’s first goal before finding the back of the net in the 53rd minute.
*The New Rochelle, N.Y. native set the school record for career assists with her 36th and became the sixth Bison to reach 80 career points.
*Deda leads the Patriot League in assists (7) and game-winning goals (5), while ranking third in goals (9), points (25), and points per game (1.56).

Patriot League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Bella Vozar, American, So., Defender, Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson
*Vozar scored American’s first goal of the game in the 45th minute, leading to a 2-2 tie against Boston University on Saturday.

Patriot League Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week
Sage Strohman, Army West Point, Sr., Goalkeeper, La Mirada, Calif./La Mirada
*Strohman collected her seventh clean sheet of the season, making five saves in Army's 3-0 win at Colgate on Saturday. The senior stopped a Raiders' penalty kick to ensure her 26 career shutout which ranks second all-time in program history.
*Among Patriot League rankings, Strohman is tied for first in shutouts (7), second in saves (78), second in saves per game (4.88), third in goals-against average (1.010), and third in save percentage (.830).

*Goldman scored the first goal of her career in the 72nd minute of American’s 2-2 tie with Boston University on Saturday.

*Duffy got the scoring started in Army’s 3-0 win at Colgate on Saturday, as the junior found the back of the net in the 22nd minute for her team-high sixth goal of the season.
*The Queensbury, N.Y. native is tied for sixth in the Patriot League in goals (6) and tied for eighth in points (14).

Grace Pohlidal, Army West Point, Fr., Midfielder, Edina, Minn./Edina
*Pohlidal collected her first career assist and helped Army achieve its seventh clean sheet of the season in the Black Knights’ 3-0 victory at Colgate on Saturday.

Giulianna Gianino, Boston University, Jr., Midfielder, Norwell, Mass./Norwell
*Gianino notched her eighth goal of the season in the 77th minute to help Boston University spur a two-goal comeback in a 2-2 draw at American on Saturday.
*The junior became the first Terrier to reach 20 points in the program's Patriot League history and is tied for 13th place in program history with 45 career points.
*Among Patriot League rankings, Gianino is fourth in goals (8), fourth in points (20), fifth in points per game (1.18), and tied for eighth in assists (4).

*Baruwa registered the game-winning goal in the 70th minute of Lehigh’s 2-1 road win over Loyola Maryland on Saturday.
