2024 Patriot League Women’s Volleyball Quarterfinal Preview (11.18.24)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The six-field 2024 Women’s Volleyball Championship begins on Tuesday, Nov. 19, with a pair of quarterfinal matches.

No. 6 Lehigh (15-12, 8-8 PL) travels to Washington, D.C. to play No. 3 American (20-8, 10-6 PL), and No. 5 Loyola Maryland (10-15, 8-8 PL) battles No. 4 Army West Point (13-11, 9-6 PL) in West Point, N.Y. Both matches will be played at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

The highest-advancing seed will play No. 2 Bucknell on Friday, Nov. 22 at 2:30 p.m., while the lowest-advancing seed will advance to the semifinals to play No. 1 Colgate at 5:30 p.m.

Both semifinal-round matches will be played at Cotterell Court on the campus of Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.

The semifinal round winners will meet in the 2024 Patriot League Volleyball Championship Match on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.

Volleyball Opens Patriot League Championships Tuesday At Army West Point
Loyola Maryland enters the Patriot League Championships with a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Army West Point. The Greyhounds are the No. 5 seed with the Black Knights entering seeded fourth. Loyola Maryland and Army West Point split the regular-season series, as the Greyhounds won a five-set match at West Point on September 28.

Loyola Maryland is making its sixth appearance in the Patriot League Championships as the Greyhounds are 1-3 in quarterfinal matches and 0-2 in semifinals.

Volleyball Hosts Lehigh in Patriot League Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday
For a second year in a row, the American University volleyball team will host a Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal in Bender Arena. The third-seeded Eagles (20-8, 10-6) are set to take on sixth-seeded Lehigh (15-12, 8-8) at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

The Eagles have appeared in every Patriot League Tournament since joining the League in 2001 and won 16 of 19 Patriot League titles through the 2019 season.

No. 6 Lehigh To Face No. 3 American In Patriot League Quarterfinal
The postseason is upon us for Patriot League volleyball, and Lehigh is set to take on American in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Washington, D.C.

No. 6 Lehigh (15-12, 8-8 PL) and No. 3 American (20-8, 10-6 PL) have met in the Patriot League tournament four times, each of which was won by the Eagles. The Mountain Hawks and Eagles split the regular season series, with each team winning on the others' home floor. Lehigh and American met in the regular season finale in D.C. on Saturday, resulting in a come-from-behind five set victory for the Mountain Hawks.

Women’s Volleyball Postseason Major Award Winners in Quarterfinal Round
2024 Patriot League Rookie of the Year

Zedo Yilmaz, American, Fr., OH, Istanbul, Turkey/Kemerburgaz Okyanus
*Yilmaz ended her 2024 campaign leading the Patriot League in points (426) and kills (364), while ranking second in aces (36) and points per set (3.91).
*The freshman also recorded 310 digs and 48 blocks.
*The Istanbul, Turkey native is the ninth American University student-athlete to earn Rookie of the Year honors. She earned six Rookie of the Week awards during the regular season.
