No. 1 Colgate Captures 2024 Patriot League Women’s Volleyball Title (11.24.24)

Raiders claim fourth straight Patriot League championship

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Top-seeded Colgate (19-10, 14-2 PL) was crowned the 2024 Patriot League Women’s Volleyball champions for the fourth consecutive year after defeating No. 4 Army West Point (16-12, 10-6 PL), 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, N.Y.  

Trailing two sets to one, the Raiders used a come-from-behind victory to capture their ninth Patriot League title and fifth under head coach Ryan Baker. Colgate earned the Patriot League’s automatic berth to the 2024 NCAA DI Women’s Volleyball Championship.

Colgate senior outside hitter Abby Shadwick was named the Tournament MVP, while fifth-year libero Taylor Cigna and sophomore right-side hitter Frances Torres joined Shadwick on the All-Tournament Team.

Army West Point junior outside hitter Mackenzie Lynch and sophomore setter Juliette Myrick represented the Black Knights on the All-Tournament squad.

Bucknell senior setter Caleigh O’Connell and Lehigh senior outside hitter Megan Schulte rounded out the seven-member All-Patriot League Tournament Team.

Colgate will learn their first-round opponent when the NCAA Selection Show reveals the field on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. on ESPN.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – No. 1 Colgate claimed its fourth-straight Patriot League Women’s Volleyball Championship with a 3-2 win over No. 4 Army West Point on Sunday afternoon at Cotterell Court.
*Tournament MVP, Colgate senior outside hitter Abby Shadwick finished with 19 kills, 15 digs, three block assists and three aces.
*The 2024 Patriot League Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year, Milan Bayless, added 15 kills, three digs, two block assists and an ace, while sophomore outside hitter Frances Torres had 10 kills and five block assists.
*Senior setter Sydney Jones notched a double-double with 23 assists and 15 digs, sophomore setter Deren Cukur totaled 24 assists and 19 digs and fifth-year libero Taylor Cigna tallied 24 digs.
*Sophomore middle blocker Lal Akin registered nine block assists and two solo blocks.
*Army West Point junior outside hitter Mackenzie Lynch paced the Black Knights with 19 kills, 12 digs and three block assists.
*Junior outside hitter Chloe Murakami totaled 13 kills, 14 digs and six aces, while senior opposite hitter Kingsley Wallace delivered 12 kills, five block assists and three digs.
*Sophomore setter Juliette Myrick had six kills, 34 assists, 11 digs, four block assists and three aces.
*Freshman middle blocker Michelle Parker and classmate Tatum Grimes combined for 11 kills and 15 total blocks.
*Freshman defensive specialist Nicole Stroud (nine assists) and freshman setter Naomi Chinchar (seven assists) totaled double-digit digs with 23 and 13, respectively.
*Colgate finished with the advantage in hitting percentage (.180-.134) and blocks (17-14), but Army West Point had the edge in aces (10-6).
