2024-25 Women’s Basketball Season Sees Balance Across the League
The Patriot League women’s basketball season tips off Monday, bringing a host of changes from the offseason. The preseason poll saw a new leader, with Loyola Maryland claiming the top spot with 148 points and 10 first-place votes. Six additional teams earned over 100 points, with just 19 points separating second through seventh place. With roster updates across the League and a coaching change for the defending champion, every team enters the season as a contender.
2024-25 Patriot League Women’s Basketball Preseason Honors
With 148 points and 10 first-place votes, Loyola Maryland was selected as the 2024-25 Patriot League women’s basketball preseason favorite. Colgate followed with 120 points and five first-place votes, while Lehigh received 109 points. Army West Point came in close behind with 108 points and one first-place vote, and Boston University earned 106 points with two first-place votes. Holy Cross collected 102 points and two first-place votes, and Navy earned 101 points. Bucknell sits in eighth place with 51 points, followed by Lafayette with 30 points. American rounded out the poll with 25 points.
Loyola Maryland forward Lex Therien was named Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year, while Bucknell sophomore forward Ashley Sofilkanich was honored as Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Both earned a spot on the five-member preseason All-League team after making last year’s All-League First Team. Rounding out the preseason team are Navy sophomore guard Zanai Barnett-Gay, Colgate senior guard Taylor Golembiewski, and Boston University senior guard Alex Giannaros.
Patriot League Announces Women’s Basketball Schedule on CBS Sports Network
The first Patriot League women’s basketball game on CBS Sports Network will air on Monday, Jan. 13, when American visits Loyola Maryland for a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader, beginning at 4 p.m.
CBS Sports Network will broadcast both Army West Point-Navy men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders this season. Army West Point hosts Navy on Sunday, Jan. 26, with the women’s game at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 3:30 p.m. Navy will host Army West Point on Saturday, Feb. 15, with the women’s game starting at 11 a.m. and the men’s game following at 1:30 p.m.
Another Patriot League doubleheader will air on CBS Sports Network on Monday, Jan. 27, when Boston University hosts in-state rival Holy Cross. The women’s game is set for 4 p.m., with the men’s game at 7 p.m.
The Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Women’s Basketball Championship Game will air for the 16th consecutive season on Sunday, March 16, at noon.
