ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men’s and women’s programs won the 2024 Patriot League Swimming & Diving titles on Saturday night at Navy’s Lejeune Hall.
Navy’s women totaled 1,397 points to place first. The Black Knights finished second with 1,199 points, the Terriers placed third with 946 points, Bucknell was fourth with 863 points and Lehigh rounded out the top five with 850.5 points. Loyola Maryland (812.5), Colgate (573), American (537), Holy Cross (365), and Lafayette (217) completed the 10-team women’s championship field.
The Midshipmen men scored 1,639.5 points, Army West Point finished second with 1,598, and Loyola placed third with 1,099 points. Bucknell (1,043.5) and Boston University (600) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Lehigh (448.5), Lafayette (393), Holy Cross (390), Colgate (339), and American (260.5) rounded out the 10-team men’s standings.
2024 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Major Awards
Navy senior Jonah Harm was named Patriot League Men’s Swimmer of the Meet for the second straight year. He won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 45.78 to break the pool record, the Patriot League and the Patriot League Championship record. He also took first in the 50-yard freestyle (19.49) and the 100-yard freestyle (43.37) to break the Patriot League Championship record.
Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Meet was awarded to Navy freshman Ben Irwin as he finished first in the men’s 100-yard backstroke (46.84) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:41.06). Irwin’s 200-back time is now the Patriot League and Patriot League Championship record. Irwin was also part of the winning 400-yard medley relay team.
Navy freshman Finn Gelbach was named Patriot League Men’s Diver of the Meet after recording first in both the one-meter dive (403.80) and the three-meter dive (392.20).
Army West Point sophomore Molly Webber was awarded the Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Meet. She won the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.28) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:46.38). Webber also recorded first place in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a time of 16:44.67.
Boston University senior Sumi Cameron was named Patriot League Women’s Diver of the Meet as she captured gold in the women’s one-meter diving competition (293.65). She also finished the weekend with a 292.70 mark in the women’s three-meter competition.
Navy freshman Ela Habjan was named Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Meet after earning first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53:41. Habjan was part of the winning 200-medley relay team and the 400-medley relay team. The freshman took third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.14
Navy’s John Morrison was named Patriot League Women’s Swim Coach of the Year. Loyola’s Brian Loeffler was awarded Patriot League Men’s Swim Coach of the Year. Navy’s Tim Fisher earned Patriot League Joe Suriano Men’s Diving Coach of the Year, while BU’s Brad Snodgrass was named the Patriot League Women’s Diving Coach of the Year for the second straight year.
Army’s Webber was named the women’s highest point scorer with 96 individual points, while teammate Wes Tate and Navy’s Jonah Harm and Ben Irwin were the men’s highest point scorers with 96 individual points each.
1650-Yard Freestyle
Army sophomore Molly Webber took the top spot in the 1650 free with a time of 16:44.67. Bucknell sophomore Claire Kehley placed second (16:52.20), and Navy sophomore Sarah Eldridge claimed third (17:00.83). On the men’s side, Army swept the distance event. Black Knight junior Wes Tate finished first with a time of 15:01.53, followed by teammates sophomore Brice Barrieault (15:09.97) and senior Ian Tansill (15:12.60).
200-Yard Backstroke
In the women’s 200 back, Loyola Maryland junior Lily Mead earned first place (1:56.24). Navy senior Gabi Baldwin came in second (1:56.53), while teammate freshman Ela Habjan finished third (1:57.14). Navy freshman Ben Irwin took gold by setting a new Patriot League and Patriot League Championship record. Irwin’s time of 1:41.06 broke the League record of 1:41.50 the freshman previously set last December. Loyola Maryland junior Henry Mueller (1:43.40) and freshman Joe Hayburn (1:44.01) joined Irwin on the podium, finishing second and third, respectfully.
100-Yard Freestyle
American senior Mimi Watts added another first-place finish to her decorated career. Watts won the 100 free with a time of 49.34, Army junior Clara Williams earned second (50.19) and Colgate first-year Lucy Art rounded out the top three with a time of 50.45. On the men’s side, Navy senior Jonah Harm topped the podium and set his second Patriot League Championship record of the meet. In the closely contested race, Harm’s record-breaking time of 43.47 narrowly bested teammate junior Everet Andrew, who finished second (43.57) and third-place finisher Loyola senior Caleb Kelly (43.58).
200-Yard Breaststroke
In the women’s 200 back, Army senior Aurelie Magault earned first place (2:11.20), Navy sophomore Lauren Walsh finished second (2:14.07) and Army sophomore Catriona Gilmore claimed third (2:14.59). Army sophomore Kohen Rankin’s first-place finishing time of 1:54.22 broke the Patriot League and the Patriot League Championship record. Army freshman Kalvin Hahn came in second (1:55.89), and Boston University graduate student Kyle Falkstrom placed third (1:55.98).
200-Yard Butterfly
Lehigh graduate student Sarah Hardy finished first in the women’s 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:58.67. Navy junior Caroline Irwin placed second (1:59.36) and Lehigh senior Julia Stevens earned third place (1:59.59). Navy freshman Ben Irwin took the top spot in the men’s 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:43.93, while teammate senior Patrick Colwell placed second (1:45.09). Army freshman Riley Groves rounded out the top three with a time of 1:45.25.
Men’s 3-Meter Diving
Navy earned the top three spots in the men’s three-meter, with freshman Finn Gelbach taking first place with a score of 392.20. Senior George Moore earned second place (368.80), while junior Blakeman Shaw placed third (363.70).
400-Yard Freestyle
Army’s team of Clara Williams, Meghan Cole, Aurelie Migault, and Molly Webber finished first in the 400-yard freestyle relay. BU Stella Langenbach, Han Hoang, Sydney Sorbello, and Lara Mitchell earned silver (3:21.88) and Navy Hannah Pratt, Anna Freyman, Gabi Baldwin, and Maya Novack placed third (3:22.36). Navy’s Jonah Harm, Ben Denman-Grimm, Ben Stankovich and Everet Andrew broke the pool, Patriot League and Patriot League Championship record with a time of 2:52.50. Army (Ben Vorthmann, Owen Harlow, Wes Tate, and Thomas Hadji) came in second with a 2:53.68. Caleb Kelly, Patrick Hayburn, Henry Mueller, and Joe Hayburn of Loyola placed third with a time of 2:55.03.
