Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Announced (4.9.24)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bucknell and Navy each earned two Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Weekly Awards when honors were announced on Tuesday. Army West Point and Boston University garnered one award apiece. 

Navy’s Nathan Kent earned Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors after winning both the 200-meters (20.84) and the 400-meters (47.31) at the Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet. Kent currently holds the 48th-best 200m mark in NCAA Division I. Bucknell’s Meghan Quinn won Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week with a first-place victory in the 100-meters. Her 11.68-second mark leads the Patriot League. She also finished as the runner-up in the 200m with a time of 24.21. 

Navy’s Joshua Boamah earned Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors following individual victories in the discus (52.76m / 173’ 1”) and the shot put (18.46m / 60’ 6.75”) at the Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet. He also logged a runner-up finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 63m (206’ 8”). Peace Omonzane received the Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors for a second time this season after a Patriot League-leading 12.89m (42’ 3.5”) jump in the triple jump at the South Florida Invitational. The Boston University sophomore is ranked 24th in NCAA DI. 

Army West Point freshman Joshua Duncan garnered his second Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week honor after clocking a 10.60-second time in the 100m. The freshman is second in the Patriot League. He also anchored the Black Knights’ relay team that logged a season-best 40.56 second time in the 4x100m relay. Bucknell’s Justley Sharp earned Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week honors after a strong showing in the discus (47.29m / 155’ 2”) and the shot put (14.88m / 48’ 10”). Her season-high marks place her second in the League in the shot put and fourth in the discus. The shot put mark cracked the NCAA Division I top-100 at 99th. 

Army West Point’s Brian Matthews, Emma Taylor and Mikayla Cheney, Boston University’s Kelsey Niglio, Bucknell’s Karen Hull, Holy Cross’s Matthew Perkins and Lehigh’s Nathan Oliphant earned honorable mention nods this week.  

  
Patriot League Men’s Track Athlete of the Week 
Nathan Kent, Navy, So., Sprints, Rocklin, Calif./Rocklin 

*Kent won both the 200m (20.84) and the 400m (47.31) at the Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet.  

*He was also a member of the Navy 4x400m team that placed second with a time of 40.63. 

*Kent’s season-best 200m mark leads the League and places him 48th in NCAA DI.  
 
Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week 
Meghan Quinn, Bucknell, Sr., Sprints, Lititz, Pa./Warwick 

*Quinn won the 100m with a Patriot League-leading mark of 11.68 seconds.   

*She also placed second in the 200m with a time of 24.21. 

*Both marks place only behind Quinn's personal-best atop Bucknell’s program record book.  

*Quinn currently leads the Patriot League in both the 100m and 200m. 
 
Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week 
Joshua Boamah, Navy, Sr., Throws, San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch 

*Boamah won the discus (52.76m / 173’ 1”) and the shot put (18.46m / 60’ 6.75”) at the Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet. 

*He also finished as the runner-up in the hammer throw with a mark of 63m (206’ 8”).  

*The senior accounted for 13 points as Navy defeated Army in the meet. 

Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week 
Peace Omonzane, Boston University, So., Jumps, Brampton, Ontario/St. Edmund Campion Catholic 

*Omonzane logged a 12.89m (42’ 3.5”) jump in the triple jump at the South Florida Invitational.  

*She leads the Patriot League and ranks 24th in NCAA DI. 

*Omonzane earned her second Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honor this season. 

Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week 

Joshua Duncan, Army West Point, Fr., Sprints, St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North 

*Duncan logged a 10.60-second time in the 100m, winning the race at the Army-Navy Outdoor Star meet.  

*His 100m mark is second in the Patriot League. 

*He also anchored the Black Knights’ 4x100m relay team that won the event with a season-best time of 40.56 seconds.  

*Duncan won his second Rookie of the Week award.  
 
Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week 
Justley Sharp, Bucknell, Fr., Throws, Homer City, Pa./Homer Center 

*Sharp placed third in the discus (47.29m / 155’ 2”) and the shot put (14.88m / 48’ 10”). 

*Her season-high marks place her second in the League in the shot put and fourth in the discus.  

*Her shot put mark is 99th in NCAA DI and she is the only freshman in the top 10 for either event in the Patriot League. 

 
Honorable Mention 
Brian Matthews, Army West Point, Sr., Sprints, Catheys Valley, Calif./El Capitan 

*Matthews won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.11.   

*His time leads the Patriot League and placed him 53rd in NCAA DI. 

*He also ran in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams that each finished first.  

Emma Taylor, Army West Point, Sr., Sprints, Keller. Tx./Keller 

*Taylor won the 100m (11.72) and the 200m (24.12) at the Army-Navy Star Meet.   

*Both of her times rank second in the Patriot League in the respective races. 

*She also anchored the 4x400m relay team that won the event.  

Mikayla Cheney, Army West Point, Fr., Distance, New Castle, Colo./Coal Ridge 

*Cheney won the 1,500m with a time of 4:34.68 at the Army-Navy Outdoor Star Meet.  

*She also ran the 800m earning a time of 2:14.26, and runner-up finish. 

Kelsey Niglio, Boston University, Fr., Distance, Marlton, N.J./Cherokee 

*Niglio placed third at the South Florida Invitational with an 800m time of 2:13.22. 

*Her time was the best in the Patriot League this weekend and places her fifth overall on the season. 

Karen Hull, Bucknell, Sr., Jumps, Randolph, N.J./Randolph 

*Hull won the high jump with a mark of 1.73m (5’ 8”) and the long jump with a mark of 5.85m (19’ 2.5”).   

*She is ranked in the top-three in both events in the Patriot League. 

*Was honored with the Meet MVP by scoring 22.5 total points, 20 of which came in field events, earning her Field MVP honors as well at the Colonial Awards event.  

Matthew Perkins, Holy Cross, Fr., Hurdles, Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian 

*Perkins won the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 55.41. 

*He ranks ninth in the Patriot League in the event.  

*The victory was Perkins' first of his collegiate career. 

Nathan Oliphant, Lehigh, Fr., Hurdles, Scranton, Pa./Riverside 

*Oliphant won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.94 seconds. 

*He now ranks fifth in the Patriot League and leads all freshmen in the event. 

*The victory was Oliphant’s first of his collegiate career.

PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS  
The 2024 Patriot League Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at Bucknell University's Christy Mathewson - Memorial Stadium beginning Friday, May 3 and concluding on Saturday, May 4. All nine men's programs and each of the ten women's programs will compete in the events as the Navy Midshipmen look to defend their men’s and women’s titles.
