Patriot League Announces Swimmers and Divers of the Week (10.28.25)

Loyola Maryland receives four weekly awards; Holy Cross and Lafayette each collect one honor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola Maryland received four of the six Patriot League men’s and women’s swimming and diving weekly awards when the League office announced the honors on Tuesday. Holy Cross and Lafayette collected the remaining honors.

Loyola Maryland junior Joe Hayburn earned Patriot League Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors after being named Swimmer of the Meet at the Thomas Murphy Invitational. Hayburn recorded three individual first-place finishes and swam on first-place relay teams.

Greyhounds’ sophomore Christine Datovech claimed Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Week, presented by Credit Union One, after setting school and pool records in the 50-yard and 100-yard butterfly events.

Lafayette junior Landon Orth was named Patriot League Men’s Diver of the Week after breaking his school record and winning the three-meter dive in the Leopards’ victory over Colgate.

Holy Cross sophomore Brenna Short collected Patriot League Women’s Diver of the Week honors, presented by Credit Union One, after winning the one-meter dive in the Crusaders’ victory at Iona.

Loyola Maryland freshman Cody Miles was recognized as the Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week after finishing with the fifth-most points at the Thomas Murphy Invitational.  

Greyhounds’ freshman Megan Donvan was named Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week, presented by Credit Union One, after winning the 200-yard breaststroke at the Thomas Murphy Invitational.

Honorable mentions went to Colgate senior Audrey Collins; Holy Cross sophomore Griffin Casey, senior Jack Greiner and freshman Andrew Villani; and Lehigh freshman Genevieve Cody and junior Kate Whitaker.

The Patriot League men’s and women’s swimmers and divers of the week were selected in a vote by League head coaches, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

Patriot League Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Joe Hayburn, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Bowie, Md./St. Mary’s
*Hayburn earned Swimmer of the Meet at the Thomas Murphy Invitational after recording first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (20.28), 100-yard backstroke (47.02) and 200-yard backstroke (1:44.46).
*The junior set a pool record in the 50-yard backstroke, a meet record in the 200-yard backstroke and swam on four winning relay teams.

Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Christine Datovech, Loyola Maryland, So., Ashland, Va./Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School
*Datovech set the pool and meet record in the 100-yard butterfly with a prelims time of 53.33, before taking first in the finals (53.44).
*The sophomore also set school and pool records in the 50-yard butterfly with a time trial of 24.00 and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (23.27).

Patriot League Men’s Diver of the Week
Landon Orth, Lafayette, Jr., Papillion, Neb./Papillion LaVista
*Orth broke his own school record and took first place in the three-meter dive with a score of 309.90 to help Lafayette defeat Colgate, 185-109, on Saturday.

Patriot League Women’s Diver of the Week
Brenna Short, Holy Cross, So., Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield
*Short won the one-meter dive (281.25) during the Crusaders' victory at Iona and placed second in the three-meter dive (214.80).

Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week
Cody Miles, Loyola Maryland, Fr., Marietta, Ga./Lassiter
*Miles finished fifth in total points at the Thomas Murphy Invitational after winning the 400-yard individual medley (3:56.39), placing second in the 1,650-yard freestyle (15:54.99) and taking third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:33.05).

Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week
Megan Donavan, Loyola Maryland, Fr.
*Donavan won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.35 and recorded a runner-up finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.76) at the Thomas Murphy Invitational.

Honorable Mentions
Audrey Collins, Colgate, Sr., Wayne, Pa./Radnor
*Collins won four events for Colgate in two meets last weekend against Lafayette and Lehigh. At Lehigh, she took first place in the 200-yard individual medley (1:06.57) and 200-yard butterfly (2:05.78)
*At Lafayette, the senior won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.00), 100-yard individual medley (59.21) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.62).

Griffin Casey, Holy Cross, So., Wilton, Conn./Wilton
*Casey won both the one-meter dive (280.22) and the three-meter dive (332.92) during Holy Cross’ victory at Iona. The sophomore recorded an NCAA Zone qualifying score in the three-meter board.

Jack Greiner, Holy Cross, Sr., New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan
*Greiner won the 200-yard butterfly (1:47.95), the 200-yard individual medley (1:49.94) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:48.65) during the Crusaders' victory at Iona.
*The sophomore set school records in both the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley and swam on the 200-yard medley relay team that finished in second place (1:30.43).

Andrew Villani, Holy Cross, Fr., Avon, Conn./Northwest Catholic
*Villani won the 100-yard butterfly (49.72) during the Crusaders' victory at Iona and placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.89).
*The freshman swam on the 200-yard medley relay team (1:30.43) and the 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:12.29) that finished second and fourth respectively.

Genevieve Cody, Lehigh, Fr., Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson
*Cody won the 50-yard freestyle (24.35) and finished as the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle (52.35) in Lehigh’s victory over Colgate. The freshman also swam the anchor leg on the 400-yard medley relay.

Kate Whitaker, Lehigh, Jr., Westport, Conn./Staples
*Whitaker captured first place in the three-meter dive with a score of 259.05 and finished second in the one-meter dive (230.55) to help Lehigh to a victory over Colgate.
