Patriot League Women’s Soccer Players of the Week Announced (10.6.25)

Duffy, Gianino, Goetzer, Henry and Kennel earn weekly honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point and Loyola Maryland each collected two Patriot League women’s soccer weekly awards presented by PenFed Credit Union, when the League office announced the honors on Monday. Boston University earned the remaining weekly honor.

Army West Point senior midfielder Brigid Duffy earned the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after scoring three goals across two games.

For the second time this season and fifth time in her career, Boston University senior midfielder Giulianna Gianino was named the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Midfielder of the Week after totaling four points across two wins for the Terriers.  

Loyola Maryland graduate student defender Riley Kennel earned the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year after scoring the game-winning goal in the Greyhounds’ victory at American.

Greyhounds’ junior Hannah Goetzer collected the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week for the second straight week after recording 12 saves and back-to-back shutouts.

For the second straight week and fourth time this season, Army West Point freshman forward Sophia Henry was tabbed the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week as she recorded a goal and an assist.

Honorable mentions went to American freshman defender Jayden Fisher and senior midfielder Avery Klingensmith, Boston University sophomore defender Alli Powderly and senior midfielder Mackenzie Stickelman, Bucknell sophomore goalkeeper Reese Dolan and junior defender Julia Palitti, Holy Cross freshman goalkeeper Aubrey Haesche and Loola senior midfielder Asma Merzougui.

The Patriot League women’s soccer players of the week are selected in a vote by League head coaches, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

Patriot League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
Brigid Duffy, Army West Point, Sr., Midfielder, Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury
*Duffy scored three goals in a 1-1 week for Army West Point, including her second brace of the season in a 3-0 win over Colgate on Saturday. The senior added a goal against Boston University to move into the program’s top 10 for career goals.
*The Queensbury, N.Y. native leads the Patriot League in goals (10), game-winning goals (5) and points (20) in 2025.
*It marks the fifth weekly award of Duffy’s career as she is a two-time Midfielder of the Week (Oct. 8, 2023, Sept. 16, 2024) and one-time Rookie of the Week (Sept. 5, 2022). She has also won 11 weekly awards in women’s lacrosse so far in her career.

Patriot League Women’s Soccer Midfielder of the Week
Giulianna Gianino, Boston University, Sr., Midfielder, Norwell, Mass./Norwell
*Gianino totaled four points on a goal and two assists in Boston University’s two victories last week.
*The senior notched an assist on BU’s second goal against Army West Point before delivering the game-winner in the 73rd minute for her fifth goal of the season. She added an assist in the 5-0 triumph over Lafayette on Saturday,
*The Norwell, Mass. native ranks first in the Patriot League in assists (6) and second in points (16).

Patriot League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Riley Kennel, Loyola Maryland, Gr., Defender, Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union
*Kennel scored the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute of Loyola Maryland’s 2-0 win at American on Wednesday. It marked the second goal of the season and her third career goal for the graduate student.
*The Redondo Beach, Calif. native earned her second Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.

Patriot League Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week
Hannah Goetzer, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Goalkeeper, Backnang, Germany/Gymnasium in der Taus
*Goetzer recorded 12 saves and consecutive shutouts in a 1-0-1 week for Loyola Maryland. The junior made eight saves in a 2-0 win at American on Wednesday before adding four saves in a 0-0 draw with Bucknell on Saturday.
*The Backnang, Germany native continues to lead the Patriot League in goals-against average (.375), save percentage (.925) and shutouts (5).

Patriot League Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week
Sophia Henry, Army West Point, Fr., Forward, Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock
*Henry, the reigning Rookie of the Week, finished with a goal and an assist in a 1-1 stretch for Army West Point. The freshman found the back of the net in the 42nd minute and assisted on Brigid Duffy’s goal in the 47th minute of the Black Knights’ 3-0 win over Colgate.

*Fisher scored her first collegiate goal in the 49th minute of American’s 3-0 win over Lehigh on Saturday. The freshman logged 42 minutes in her first career start.

Avery Klingensmith, American, Sr., Midfielder, Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown
*Klingensmith recorded a goal and an assist in American’s 3-1 win over Lehigh on Friday. The senior assisted on the Eagles’ goal in the third minute before burying a penalty kick in the 36th minute.

Alli Powderly, Boston University, So., Defender, Kingston, Mass./Silver Lake Regional
*Powderly scored her first collegiate goal in the 48th minute of Boston University’s 5-0 victory over Lafayette on Saturday. She logged 148 minutes for a back line that led the Terriers to a 2-0 week.

Mackenzie Stickelman, Boston University, Midfielder, Sr., East Northport, N.Y./John H. Glenn
*Stickelman paced Boston University to a pair of wins last week with three goals. The senior found the back of the net four minutes into the Terriers’ 3-2 victory at Army West Point on Wednesday.
*She followed that up with her first collegiate brace in a 5-0 win over Lafayette on Saturday.
*The East Northport, N.Y. native is tied for fourth in the Patriot League in goals (5) and tied for sixth in points (10).

Reese Dolan, Bucknell, So., Goalkeeper, Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury
*Dolan totaled three saves in a 0-0-2 week for Bucknell that featured 0-0 draws with Lafayette and Loyola Maryland. She made one save against the Leopards on Wednesday before adding two saves against the Greyhounds on Saturday.
*The sophomore is third in the Patriot League in goals-against average (.700) and save percentage (.837).

Julia Palitti, Bucknell, Jr., Defender, Blauvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee
*Palitti turned in two strong 90-minute performances last week as Bucknell posted 0-0 draws with Lafayette and Loyola Maryland. The junior helped a backline that limited the Leopards and Greyhounds to 13 shots across two matches.

Aubrey Haesche, Holy Cross, Fr., Goalkeeper, New City, N.Y./Albertus Magnus
*Haesche totaled 17 saves and earned her first collegiate conference win in a 1-1 week for Holy Cross. The freshman made a career-high 11 saves in a 1-0 victory over Navy on Sunday and had six saves at Colgate on Wednesday night.

*Merzougui helped Loyola Maryland secure a 2-0 win at American on Wednesday, as the senior scored a long-range goal in the 70th minute.
