Patriot League Football Players of the Week presented by Credit Union 1 Announced (11.24.25)

Lehigh’s Yoder, Holy Cross’ Thompson and Comestro and Fordham’s Worrell collect weekly honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior running back Luke Yoder and Holy Cross junior defensive back Eli Thompson claimed Patriot League Football Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, when the League office announced the final set of weekly awards, presented by Credit Union 1, of the 2025 season. The Crusaders claimed one additional honor, and Fordham received one weekly accolade.
 
The Mountain Hawks’ Yoder captured Patriot League Football Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season, after posting career-highs of 234 rushing yards and four touchdowns to earn Rivalry 161 MVP honors in Lehigh’s 42-32 win over Lafayette to claim the Patriot League crown.
 
Crusaders’ junior defensive back Eli Thompson was named Patriot League Football Defensive Player of the Week for the first time. Thompson intercepted two passes and returned one for a 94-yard touchdown in Holy Cross’ 42-7 win over Georgetown at Fenway Park.   
 
Holy Cross junior safety Donovan Comestro was named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week. He blocked a punt that was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown in the Crusaders’ win over the Hoyas.   
 
Fordham freshman wide receiver Troy Worrell was selected Patriot League Rookie of the Week. He caught four passes for a career-high 160 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown pass in a loss at Merrimack.  
 
Colgate first-year wide receiver Matt Fogler, senior defensive end Dane Picariello, junior wide receiver Reed Swanson and junior placekicker Luke Vogeler received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
 
The Patriot League football players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s football athletics communications contacts, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

Patriot League Football Credit Union 1 Offensive Player of the Week
Luke Yoder, Lehigh, Jr., RB, Palm Harbor, Fla./East Lake
*Yoder rushed for a career-high 234 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries to earn MVP of Rivalry 161, in Lehigh’s 42-32 victory over Lafayette.
*The junior running back rushed for an 80-yard touchdown to open the third quarter, then scored late in the third to put the Mountain Hawks in front for good before adding his fourth TD of the game in the final quarter to seal the win.
*His 234-yard performance is the fourth-highest single-game total in program history, and the second most rushing yards in the history of The Rivalry game.  
 
Patriot League Football Credit Union 1 Defensive Player of the Week
Eli Thompson, Holy Cross, Jr., CB, Rome, Ga./Darlington
*Thompson had two interceptions, including a 94-yard interception return for a touchdown in Holy Cross’ 42-7 win over Georgetown at Fenway Park.
*His 94-yard interception return for a touchdown was his second pick-six of the season and marked the second multi-interception game of his career.
*He also posted four tackles and 1.0 TFL against the Hoyas.
 
Patriot League Football Credit Union 1 Special Teams Player of the Week
Donovan Comestro, Holy Cross, Jr., S, Ladera Ranch, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic
*Comestro blocked a punt that was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown that gave Holy Cross a 14-0 lead in their 42-7 win over Georgetown.
*The junior safety is the fourth different Crusader to block a punt this season for a squad that leads the FCS with six blocked punts.
*He also recorded two tackles on defense.
 
Patriot League Football Credit Union 1 Rookie of the Week
Troy Worrell, Fordham, Fr., WR, White Plains, N.Y./The Williston Northampton School
*Worrell finished with four receptions for a career-high 160 yards and a touchdown in Fordham’s 27-26 loss at Merrimack.
*He caught a 73-yard touchdown from quarterback Gunnar Smith in the third quarter to give the Rams a 26-13 lead.
 
Honorable Mentions
Matt Fogler, Colgate, Fy., WR, Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller
*Fogler caught four passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns in Colgate’s 38-19 win over Bucknell. The first-year receiver had touchdown receptions of 37 and 39 yards on consecutive drives in the first half, helping him finish with seven touchdown catches in his last four games.
 
Dane Picariello, Colgate, Sr., DE, Bristol, Pa./St. Joe’s Prep
*Picariello recorded nine tackles, one sack and an interception in Colgate’s 38-19 win over Bucknell. His interception set up a field goal at the end of the first half to help the Raiders extend their lead to 24-7.
 
Reed Swanson, Colgate, Jr., WR, Glen Gardner, N.J./Wyoming Seminary
*Swanson finished with six receptions for 133 yards and a touchdown in Colgate’s 38-19 victory over Bucknell to close the season. The junior receiver caught a 67-yard touchdown pass, the longest of his career, on the second play from scrimmage.

*Vogeler connected on all five of his PAT attempts and hit a 33-yard field goal in the second quarter in the Raiders’ 38-19 win over Bucknell.
