BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University received three of the six Patriot League men’s and women’s swimming and diving weekly awards when the League office announced the honors on Tuesday. Bucknell, Loyola Maryland and Navy collected the remaining honors.
Loyola Maryland sophomore Brennan Coyle was named Patriot League Men’s Swimmer of the Week after collecting Male Swimmer of the Meet honors at the H2ounds Invitational.
Boston University senior Haley Newman was honored as the Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Week, presented by Credit Union 1, after helping BU win the Terrier Invite for the first time since 2018.
For the second time this season, Boston University junior Zein Mahana collected Patriot League Men’s Diver of the Week honors after recording top-five finishes in the one-meter and three-meter diving events at the Terrier Invite.
Navy senior Mackenzie Kim was tabbed Patriot League Women’s Diver of the Week, presented by Credit Union 1, for the third time this campaign after posting three top-five finishes in the diving events at the Navy Invitational.
Bucknell freshman Drew Davis was recognized as the Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week after recording two individual times on the Bison’s top-10 list.
Boston University freshman Molly Barber collected her second Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week honors of the season, presented by Credit Union 1, after winning five events at the Terrier Invite.
Honorable mentions went to Army West Point senior Molly Webber, Boston University freshman Dimitri Melnikov, Colgate senior Audrey Colluns, Holy Cross senior Jack Greiner and sophomore Brenna Short, Lehigh first-year Eliza Johnson and Navy senior Anthony Sciulli.
The Patriot League men’s and women’s swimmers and divers of the week were selected in a vote by League head coaches, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
Patriot League Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Brennan Coyle, Loyola Maryland, So., Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh
*Coyle was named the Male Swimmer of the Meet at the H2ounds Invitational after recording an NCAA B cut in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 52.04, the fastest in the Patriot League this season and the No. 25 time in the nation.
*The sophomore also won the 50-yard freestyle in 19.87 and set meet and pool records in the 100-yard freestyle, touching in 43.61.
*The Lafayette Hill, Pa. native swam on the 400-yard freestyle relay that set pool, school and meet records in 2:53.81, and posted a 24.65 in a time trial of the 50-yard breaststroke to establish pool and meet records.
Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Haley Newman, Boston University, Sr., Anaheim, Calif./Canyon
*Newman helped Boston University win the Terrier Invite for the first time since 2018, highlighted by a school-record victory in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:01.11.
*The senior added runner-up finishes in the 400-yard individual medley (4:22.32) and 200-yard butterfly (2:00.43), and swam on the 800-yard freestyle relay that won in 7:27.82.
Patriot League Men’s Diver of the Week
Zein Mahana, Boston University, Jr., Princeton, N.J./Princeton
*Mahana posted a pair of top-five finishes at the Terrier Invitational, helping Boston University place second out of eight teams.
*The junior placed third in the one-meter dive (292.15) and followed with a fifth-place finish in the three-meter board (303.30).
Patriot League Women’s Diver of the Week
Mackenzie Kim, Navy, Sr., Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Bar
*Kim posted three top-five finishes at the Navy Invitational against Rutgers, James Madison, George Washington, Villanova and NC State.
*The senior placed fourth in the one-meter (276.05), took fifth in the three-meter (252.20), and finished third on platform (212.40).
*The Diamond Bar, Calif. native is now a 13-time Patriot League Women’s Diver of the Week.
Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week
Drew Davis, Bucknell, Fr., Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft
*Davis set two individual marks on the program’s all-time top-10 lists during the three-day Bucknell Invitational.
*The freshman posted the sixth-fastest time in school history in the 100-yard backstroke (49.33) and the 10th-fastest time in the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.04).
Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week
Molly Barber, Boston University, Fr., Ottawa, Ont./Nepean
*Barber helped Boston University win the Terrier Invitational for the first time since 2018, posting multiple top finishes.
*The freshman won the 50-yard freestyle (22.90) and 100-yard freestyle (50.38) and swam on the winning 200-yard medley (1:41.05), 400-yard medley (3:41.41) and 200-yard freestyle (3:22.83) relays.
*She also placed 11th in the 100-yard butterfly (55.02) and contributed to the second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:32.10).
Honorable Mentions
Molly Webber, Army West Point, Sr., Morris Plains, N.J./Morristown
*Webber led Army West Point with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.13) at NC State’s Wolfpack Elite Invitational, defeating swimmers from Auburn, Virginia Tech, NC State, Duke, Arizona, and George Washington.
*The senior placed ninth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:32.13), 11th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.49) and 400-yard medley relay (3:41.33) as well as 12th in the 200-yard medley relay.
Dimitri Melnikov, Boston University, Fr., Northvale, Va./Bergen Catholic
*Melnikov helped Boston University place second of eight teams at the Terrier Invitational, highlighted by a tie for seventh in the 200-yard individual medley (1:50.63).
*The freshman finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke (55.34), seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:02.23), and contributed to a runner-up finish in the 400-yard medley relay (3:15.09) and a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:29.72).
Audrey Collins, Colgate, Sr., Wayne, Pa./Radnor
*Collins was named Female Co-Swimmer of the Meet after helping Colgate place second of eight teams at Loyola Maryland’s H2ounds Invitational.
*The senior won the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.26) and the 100-yard butterfly (54.35), added a runner-up finish in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.70), and contributed to third-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay (1:42.06), 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.15) and 400-yard medley relay (3:47.37).
Jack Greiner, Holy Cross, Sr., New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan
*Greiner won three individual events and set three school records and two meet records for Holy Cross at the Harold Anderson Invitational.
*The senior won the 200-yard individual medley in a school-record time of 1:48.99, the 400-yard individual medley in a school and meet-record mark of 3:53.33, and the 200-yard butterfly in a meet-record 1:48.43.
Brenna Short, Holy Cross, So., Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield
*Short placed in the top three of both diving events at the Harold Anderson Invitational, finishing second in the three-meter (302.40) and third in the one-meter (264.30).
Eliza Johnson, Lehigh, Fy., Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy
*Johnson swept all four events and set two pool records against Patriot League rival Lafayette. She won the 100-yard backstroke in 55.03 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:00.89.
*The Wilmington, Del. native contributed to school-record performances in the 200-yard medley relay (1:42.51) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:22.97).
Anthony Sciulli, Navy, Sr., Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty
*Sciulli recorded a runner-up finish in the one-meter dive (284.50) at the Navy Invitational against George Washington and Villanova. The senior added a seventh-place finish in the three-meter board (256.55) as well as a fourth-place finish on the platform (219.00).
