Patriot League Women’s Basketball Championship First Round Recap presented by PenFed Credit Union (3.8.25)

No. 7 Lafayette and No. 8 Boston University earn home first-round victories

EASTON, Pa. - No. 7 Lafayette defeated No. 10 American, 87-53, and No. 8 Boston University beat No. 9 Loyola Maryland, 75-51, in the First Round of the 2025 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Basketball Championship.
 
Lafayette defeated American behind a near triple-double performance from senior guard Abby Antognoli and five 3-pointers from junior guard Sauda Ntaconayigize. The seventh-seeded Leopards will take on No. 2 Army West Point in Christl Arena on Monday night.
 
Boston University had four scorers in double digits and used a 27-point third quarter to cruise past the Greyhounds. The eighth-seeded Terriers will travel to Bethlehem to take on the top-seeded Lehigh in the quarterfinal round on Monday night.
 
Two more Patriot League women’s basketball quarterfinal-round games are on Monday, with No. 3 Colgate hosting No. 6 Bucknell, and No. 4 Navy welcoming No. 5 Holy Cross. Live coverage of all four Patriot League Women’s Basketball Championship Quarterfinals games begins at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

Boston University used a hot-shooting first quarter to take down Loyola Maryland 75-51, to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Championship.
*The Terriers jumped out to a 11-4 lead early in the first quarter and finished on a 15-5 run to lead 26-9 after the first quarter.
*The Terriers extended their lead to 36-18 at halftime after sophomore guard Ines Monteagudo hit a wing three on the Terriers’ last possession of the half.
*The Boston University offense exploded in the third quarter scoring 27 points, knocking down 8-of-10 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to extend their lead to 63-32. The Terriers continued their momentum into the fourth quarter to earn the win.
*The Terriers were paced by junior forward Anete Adler’s 13 points. Guards Sisi Bentley and Audrey Ericksen each scored 11 points and Alex Giannaros chipped in 10 points.
*Senior guard Laura Salmeron led Loyola Maryland with nine points. Senior forward Koi Sims scored five points and grabbed five boards.

Easton, Pa. – Lafayette’s efficient offense powers the Leopards over American, 87-53, to advance to the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Championship.
*Lafayette and American traded baskets to open the game before junior guard Sauda Ntaconayigize hit three consecutive 3-pointers as Lafayette went on a 14-2 run to close the first quarter to lead 24-12.
*The Leopards offense continued to roll in the second quarter scoring 20 points, extending their lead to 44-20 at the break.
*The Lafayette offense stayed hot in the second half shooting 18-of-35 from the floor to earn the first-round victory.
*The Leopards were led by senior guard Abby Antognoli who posted a near triple-double with 16 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Teresa Kiewiet added 16 points while Ntaconayigize and junior forward Emma Shields contributed 15 points each.
*Freshman guard Molly Driscoll paced the Eagles with 18 points, classmate Cecilia Kay scored seven points and grabbed 11 boards.
