Patriot League Announces 2025 Men’s and Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-League Teams

Boston University’s Christy Chen and Holy Cross’ Nolan Schuermann claim Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University senior Christy Chen and Holy Cross senior Nolan Schuermann collected 2025 Patriot League Women’s and Men’s Golf Scholar-Athletes of the Year, respectively, when the League office announced academic honors on Friday.
 
Boston University’s Christy Chen (economics and math, 3.82 GPA), a two-time Patriot League Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earned All-Patriot League honors for the fourth time at the conclusion of the women’s championship and claims a spot on the six-member Academic All-Patriot League Team for the third time. This marks the eighth time a Terrier has earned the highest academic honor in women’s golf.
 
Holy Cross’ Nolan Schuermann (economics, 3.56 GPA) won individual medalist honors at the 2025 Patriot League Men’s Golf Championship, collecting his third All-Patriot League accolade. He made the academic team for the first time. Schuermann is the first Crusaders’ men’s golfer to earn Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

2025 Patriot League Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Christy Chen, Boston University, Sr., Guangzhou, China/Guangzhou Foreign Language School
*Chen is a two-time Patriot League Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, two-time Player of the Year, four-time All-Patriot League honoree and three-time Academic All-League selection.
*She carries a 3.82 cumulative GPA while majoring in economics and mathematics.
*The two-time Patriot League Player of the Year finished seventh at the 2025 Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship after posting a 74.56 scoring average with five top-5 finishes during the 2024-25 season.
*She received Boston University’s Gretchen Schuyler Award, presented to the top women’s scholar-athlete in the senior class.

2025 Patriot League Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Nolan Schuermann, Holy Cross, Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier
*Schuermann won the individual title at the 2025 Patriot League Championship by shooting a 2-under par 208 (68-69-71) and winning a playoff hole to earn an individual bid to the NCAA DI Men’s Golf Regionals.
*The senior captain economics major carries a 3.56 cumulative GPA and is a two-time GCAA All-America Scholar.
*He averaged 74.27 strokes per round during the spring with a season-best round of 68 twice, including the first round of the Patriot League Championship.
*The Cincinnati, Ohio native is the men’s golf SAAC representative and has been an active volunteer in the Worcester, Mass. community during his collegiate career.

Seven Patriot League Golfers Become Multi-Season Academic All-League Selections
Chen and Lehigh senior Madison Pineda (bioengineering, 3.63 GPA) received Academic All-Patriot League honors for the third time. They join Boston University’s Emily Tillo and Adela Cejnarova, Lehigh’s Reagan Jahn and Navy’s Renata Bucher and Stephanie Lee as three-time honorees. Boston University’s Manjunath and Bucknell’s Richter are two-time academic squad selections.
 
Loyola Maryland graduate student Mike Crowley (MBA, 4.0 grad. GPA; finance, information systems and data analysis, 3.911 undergraduate GPA) highlights the men’s multi-year Academic All-League honorees, receiving a spot on the team for the third straight season to become the third student-athlete in men’s golf history to accomplish the feat, joining Loyola Maryland’s Connor Flach and Lehigh’s Owen Quinn. Herzig and Navy senior Benjamin Valdez (quantitative economics, 3.85 GPA) were academic team members last season.
 
Nine All-League Finishers Claim Academic All-League Recognition
Five of the six women’s Academic All-Patriot League selections claimed All-League honors at the conclusion of the 2025 Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship. Boston University junior Annika Manjunath (computer science, 3.81 GPA) and Lehigh junior Stefania Fedun (IDEAS, 3.56 GPA) both received first-team All-League honors. Chen, Bucknell junior Paige Richter (economics, 3.53 GPA) and Navy sophomore Keira Howard (mathematics and economics, 3.58 GPA) all earned a spot on the second team.
 
Four of the six men’s academic All-League honorees made one of the two All-League teams after the 2025 Patriot League Men’s Golf Championship. Holy Cross’ Schuermann and Lafayette senior Quint Dingledine (economics, 3.31 GPA), who tied for first place, were joined by Colgate senior Robbie Herzig (economics and Chinese, 3.81 GPA) as first-team honorees to make the academic squad. Army senior John Heckel Jr. (business management, 3.23 GPA) was a second-team member.
 
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year winner for each sport comprised a pool of nominees for the Patriot League’s Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, presented annually at the conclusion of the academic year.
