No. 3 Navy Outlasts No. 1 Loyola Maryland in Overtime to Capture 2025 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Title

Tournament MVP Mikayla Williams scores game-winning goal in OT to lift Mids to title

BALTIMORE – Sophomore midfielder Mikayla Williams scored the game-winning goal with 16 seconds remaining in the first overtime, lifting No. 3 Navy (15-5, 7-2 PL) over No. 1 Loyola Maryland (13-6, 9-0 PL) to capture the 2025 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse title and the League’s automatic berth into the NCAA DI Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
 
Williams was selected Patriot League Championship MVP after finishing with two goals, six draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover to help the Mids collect their seventh Patriot League crown under head coach Cindy Timchal.
 
Senior defender Alyssa Daley joined Williams on the All-Tournament Team, posting nine draw controls to help Navy hold an 18-12 advantage in the draw circle. She finished with 38 draw controls during the tournament to break the Patriot League career record with 500 draw controls. Senior attack Tori DiCarlo posted three goals, and junior attack Emma Kennedy added two goals to earn All-Tournament honors.  
 
Georgia Latch, the Patriot League Attacker of the Year, earned All-Tournament honors after posting nine points on four goals and five assists. Latch etched her name in the League record book, tying the Patriot League Championship Record with 18 points and 10 assists during the tournament. She was joined by teammates Chase Boyle and Lily Osborne, the Patriot League Midfielder and Defensive Player of the Year.
 
Army West Point senior attack Allison Reilly and senior defender Haley Kampert, and Holy Cross junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Creagh and senior attack Ella Kittredge were named to the 11-member All-Tournament Team.
 
Navy will learn its postseason fate when the field of 29 is announced during the 2025 NCAA DI Women’s Lacrosse Selection Show on Sunday, May 4. Live coverage of the selection show is available on ESPNU at 9 p.m. ET.

BALTIMORE Mikayla Williams scored the game-winning goal with 16 seconds remaining in overtime to lift No. 3 Navy over No. 1 Loyola Maryland, 14-13, to capture the program’s seventh Patriot League title and the League’s automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
*Patriot League Rookie of the Year Alyssa Chung scored two of her game-high five goals in the fourth quarter to help Navy erase a three-goal deficit before Tori DiCarlo sent the game to overtime, scoring the equalizer with 18 seconds remaining in regulation. DiCarlo finished with three goals.
*Alyssa Daley finished with nine draw controls, giving her 38 for the tournament to give her 500 during her career to break Navy’s Loren Generi for the Patriot League career draw controls record.
*Loyola Maryland’s Georgia Latch finished with a game-high nine points on four goals and five assists for the second straight game. Latch tied the Patriot League Championship records for assists (10) and points (18).
*Chase Boyle, the Patriot League Midfielder of the Year, finished with three goals, one assist and seven draw controls for the Greyhounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Quarter
*Navy’s DiCarlo opened the scoring with a free-position goal at the 13:20 mark in the first quarter, followed by a goal from Patriot League Rookie of the Year Alyssa Chung less than three minutes later to give the Mids a 2-0 lead.
*Loyola Maryland’s Gabby Stapleton put the Greyhounds on the board for the first time with a free-position goal with 9:22 remaining in the first quarter. Latch tied the game two minutes later with her first goal.
*Chung and DiCarlo answered with goals nearly a minute apart to put the Mids back up by two.
*Latch added her second goal of the game with under two minutes left in the first quarter to bring the Greyhounds within one goal at 4-3, after the first quarter.
*The Mids won five of the eight draws and outshot the Greyhounds, 15-6, in the first quarter.
2nd Quarter
*Daley won the draw to open the second quarter, passing Navy’s Loren Generi for the Patriot League career record, leading to Chung’s third goal of the game less than one minute into the second frame to put Navy back in front by two goals, at 5-3.
*Latch assisted on four straight goals during a 5-0 Greyhounds’ run to turn a two-goal deficit into a three-goal lead before Navy’s Lola Leone ended the run with 14 seconds left in the half, sending Loyola into the break in front, 8-6. 
3rd Quarter
*Latch continued to roll, scoring the first goal of the third quarter before dishing out her fifth assist of the afternoon on Boyle’s goal less than one minute later, putting the Greyhounds in front 10-6.
*Loyola’s Emma Talago added another goal to extend the lead to five goals, the largest lead by either team during the championship game.
*Navy’s Emma Kennedy halted the momentum, scoring an unassisted goal at the 7:14 mark in the third quarter to bring the Mids within four goals at 11-7.
4th Quarter
*The Mids cut the deficit to two goals, at 11-9, early in the fourth quarter, as Emily Messinese assisted goals by Maggie DeFabio and Williams.
*Boyle ended the run with her third goal of the day, putting Loyola back up by three goals at the 10:42 mark in the final frame.
*Chung scored two goals and Kennedy added one during a 3-0 run by the Mids to tie the score at 12 with 4:21 remaining in the game.
*Latch gave the Greyhounds the lead, scoring an unassisted goal with 1:02 remaining in the game, but DiCarlo answered with 18 seconds left in regulation after Daley’s draw control.   
*The Mids outscored the Greyhounds 6-2 in the final frame to overcome a four-goal deficit.
Overtime
*The Mids opened the extra period with the ball but could not convert an early free position to hand possession over Loyola Maryland.
*Navy’s Landen Cain caused a turnover on the Greyhounds’ lone possession of overtime to put the ball back onto the Mids’ offensive end, where Williams scored the game-winner with 16 seconds remaining in the first overtime.
