Chase Boyle and
Georgia Latch scored a hat-trick for the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team on Friday evening, but the Greyhounds fell to Stony Brook University, 11-8, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Georgia Latch and Chase Boyle each notched hat tricks and combined for all four of the Greyhounds' assists, on the evening. With her two assists, Latch broke the Loyola single-season assists record, while also tying the Patriot League record.
Loyola and Stony Brook battled through the first half, trading goals as the Seawolves headed into the break leading 7–5. Loyola held the edge on draws in the first half, 7-6, while both teams turned the ball over seven times in the opening half.
Loyola (13–7) opening the second half with a pair of goals to tie the game at 7-7 with 6:39 remaining in the third quarter, but Stony Brook (16–4) responded with a 4-0 run over the next 12 minutes of game time to push past the Greyhounds.
Loyola controlled the draw circle, 14–8, while Lauren Spence kept the Greyhounds close with 10 saves in the game. The team also held Stony Brook to 17-22 on clear attempts in the game, but Loyola was outshot 34-24 in the game.
Gabby Stapleton added a pair of goals for Loyola, while Mim Suares-Jury added an assist.
Loyola's season ends after a strong 13-win campaign and the programs 26th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 13th appearance under Head Coach Jen Adams.
