LEWISBURG, Pa. – Jeremy Young, who served as an assistant volleyball coach at Bucknell during the program's recent resurgence, has been named interim head coach for the 2025 season. Young played a substantial role in rebuilding the Bison program back into a championship contender in the Patriot League, highlighted by a 21-5 record and a second-place finish last season.
Young succeeds Tyler Hagstrom, who resigned on Wednesday to become the head coach at the University of Pennsylvania. Young will be joined on the Bison bench by assistant coaches Kristen Sipling and Allison Palmi this fall.
"Jeremy emerged as the ideal candidate to step into our head volleyball coach role when it opened this week," said interim vice president for Athletics and Recreation Tim Pavlechko. "He had a hand in recruiting all of our returning student-athletes, and his on-court role related to tactics and player development was key to the team going 24-8 in Patriot League play over the last two seasons. I am excited for Jeremy to lead the program this fall and look forward to supporting the team's continued success."
Young joined the Bucknell staff in July 2021, and during his four-year tenure, the Bison tripled their overall win total from seven in 2021 to 21 in 2024. The team returned to postseason play for the first time in 12 years in 2022, and the Bison finished second in the Patriot League regular-season standings in each of the last two seasons.
Young spent three years coaching collegiate volleyball before he arrived at Bucknell, making stops at both Southern Utah and North Carolina.
Young spent seven years coaching with the Triangle Volleyball Club in Morrisville, N.C., working with age groups 13-16. He coached athletes who committed to a host of Power Five schools and served as assistant director for the club from 2017 to 2018.
Young earned his bachelor's degree in history and religion from Hillsdale College in 2004 and later a master's degree in education from North Carolina in 2010.
The Bison open the 2025 season on Aug. 29 against Iowa State at Ohio University's Bobcat Invitational. The team returns 12 players from last year's 21-win team, including Patriot League Setter of the Year
Caleigh O'Connell, fellow First Team All-Patriot League honorees
