Patriot League Announces Field Hockey Players of the Week presented by Credit Union 1 (9.15.25)

Terriers receive three weekly honors after upset win vs. No. 4 Boston College; Lehigh and Bucknell each earned one award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. –Boston University earned three of the five Patriot League field hockey weekly awards when the League office announced honors, presented by Credit Union 1, on Monday. Lehigh and Bucknell earned one award apiece.
 
Boston University senior forward Caroline O’Brien was voted Patriot League Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week after totaling seven points on two goals and three assists in wins against Quinnipiac (4-2) and No. 4 Boston College (1-0).
 
Lehigh senior Kiki Mes claimed Patriot League Field Hockey Midfielder of the Week. She totaled three goals and one assist in losses to No. 19 Monmouth (4-3) and Temple (4-1).
 
Bucknell senior defender Kira Leclercq was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after scoring two goals and making one defensive save in losses vs. No. 17 Penn State and Delaware.
 
Boston University junior Sophie Ortyl captured Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week recognition after making 10 saves and recording a 1-0 shutout in the Terriers’ upset victory over No. 4 Boston College.
 
Terriers’ freshman forward Delfi Coulo was named the Patriot League Field Hockey Rookie of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in BU’s 1-0 upset win over the fourth-ranked Eagles.  
 
American senior goalkeeper Pauline Gineste, and junior defender Sophie Willemse, Colgate junior forward Morgan Willis, Holy Cross junior midfielder Maguire Sturgis and Lafayette freshman midfielder Rosalie van Gool and senior midfielder Josephine van Wijk received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
 
The Patriot League field hockey players of the week are selected in a vote by League head coaches, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

Patriot League Credit Union 1 Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week
Caroline O’Brien, Boston University, Sr., Forward, Devon, Pa./Villa Maria Academy
*O’Brien recorded two goals and two assists in Boston University’s 4-2 victory over Quinnipiac on Friday.
*The senior forward assisted the game-winning goal in the 58th minute to lead the Terriers to a 1-0 upset victory over No. 4 Boston College.
 
Patriot League Credit Union 1 Field Hockey Midfielder of the Week
Kiki Mes, Lehigh, Sr., Midfielder, Maastricht, The Netherlands/Porta Mosana College
*Mes totaled three goals and one assist in two games in losses against No. 19 Monmouth (4-3) and Temple (4-1).
*She scored two goals and dished out one assist in the one-goal loss to the No. 19 Hawks. She scored the Mountain Hawks’ lone goal against Temple.
 
Patriot League Credit Union 1 Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
Kira Leclercq, Bucknell, Sr., Defender, Berlin, Germany/ Vicco von Bülow Gymnasium Stahnsdorf
*Leclercq scored one goal and made a defensive save in Bucknell’s 2-1 loss against No. 17 Penn State on Friday.
*She added a goal on a penalty stroke in a 3-1 loss at Delaware. The senior defender has scored one goal in Bucknell’s last three games.
 
Patriot League Credit Union 1 Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week
Sophie Ortyl, Boston University, Jr., Goalkeeper, Lexington, Mass./Lexington
*Ortyl recorded 10 saves in Boston University’s 1-0 upset victory over No. 4 Boston College.
*The junior goalkeeper went 2-0 with a .882 save percentage and 1.5 goals-against average (GAA), including a five-save performance in a 4-2 win vs. Quinnipiac.
 
Patriot League Credit Union 1 Field Hockey Rookie of the Week
Delfi Coulo, Boston University, Fr., Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Mark’s School
*Coulo scored her first collegiate goal in the 58th minute of Boston University’s 1-0 upset win over No. 4 Boston College.
*She also assisted the Terriers’ final goal in a 4-2 victory over Quinnipiac on Friday.

Pauline Gineste, American, Sr., Goalkeeper, Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School
*Gineste posted a .727 save percentage and a 2.25 GAA in losses against No. 13 Saint Joseph’s (1-0) and Penn (2-0). She made three saves against the Hawks and five saves against the Quakers.  
 
Sophie Willemse, American, Jr., Defender, Oisterwijk, The Netherlands/2College Durendael
*Willemse led an Eagles’ defense that limited No. 13 Saint Joseph’s to one goal on four shots on goal in a 1-0 loss. She helped limit the Hawks to three penalty corners for a squad that averages 5.4 corners per game.
 
Morgan Willis, Colgate, Jr., Forward, Madison, N.J./Oak Knoll School
*Willis helped the Raiders go 1-1, including a 4-1 victory over LIU. The junior forward scored the Raiders’ goal in a 2-1 loss vs. Central Michigan. She scored the final goal of Colgate’s win over the Sharks.  Willis leads the League in goals (6).
 
Maguire Sturgis, Holy Cross, Jr., Midfielder, Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional
*Sturgis posted one goal and two assists to lead Holy Cross to a 3-2 victory over Stonehill on Friday. She scored the game-tying goal and assisted on the go-ahead goal for the Crusaders. Sturgis leads the Patriot League with 14 points.
 
Rosalie van Gool, Lafayette, Fr., Midfielder, Sint-Michielsgestel, The Netherlands/Maurik College
*Van Gool played all 120 minutes in games against Temple (1-0) and No. 5 Syracuse. She scored one goal and made a defensive save against the fifth-ranked Orange.
 
Josephine van Wijk, Lafayette, Sr., Midfielder, The Hague, The Netherlands/Gymnasium Sorghvliet
*Van Wijk played more than 100 minutes in Lafayette’s losses at Temple and No. 5 Syracuse. The senior midfielder scored the first goal of the game against the Orange to give the Leopards an early lead. Against Temple, van Wijk helped hold the Owls to one penalty corner and four shots on goal.
