Edwards and Weber combine for five rushing touchdowns in Leopards’ third straight win

EASTON, Pa. – Junior running back Kente Edwards rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries to lead Lafayette to a 38-14 victory over Columbia in its home opener on Friday night.
*Edwards, the FCS leader in rushing touchdown (10), scored in the first, second and third quarters, helping the Leopards build a 24-14 lead by early in the third. It marked his third straight game with three or more scores.
*Lafayette sophomore running back Ethan Webber rushed for 56 yards and two second-half touchdowns on 15 carries to help the Leopards’ offense total 230 yards on the ground.
*Senior quarterback Dean DeNobile completed 14-of-17 passes for 166 yards, while sophomore wide receiver Mason Kuehner caught three passes for a team-high 58 yards.
*Junior placekicker Jack Simonetta put the Leopards on the scoreboard on the team’s first possession, connecting on a 37-yard field goal. He also made all five PAT attempts.
*Lafayette sophomore defensive back Kevin Dodard recorded his first collegiate interception on the Lions’ first drive of the third quarter to help set up a one-yard touchdown run by Weber six plays later.
*On the ensuing Columbia possession, the Leopards’ defense stopped the Lions on five plays from the one-yard line to cause a turnover on downs at the end of the third frame.
*Sophomore safety Dhonte Jackson and freshman linebacker Beckham Dee finished with seven tackles apiece for a Leopards’ defense that held Columbia scoreless in the second half on the way to their third straight win.
