Patriot League Announces M-F Athletic Cross Country Weekly Awards (9.23.25)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh garnered two Patriot League M-F Athletic Cross Country Weekly Awards, while Boston University and Holy Cross split the final two awards when the honors were announced Tuesday by the League office.  
 
Holy Cross’ Liam Lyons earned Patriot League M-F Athletic Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for the second time this season after logging an 8K time of 24:07.6. He won the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. It is the second individual win for Lyons this fall. Lehigh senior Lucy Afanasewicz was named Patriot League M-F Athletic Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week after posting a 5K time of 17:47.4. She was the 11th-place finisher in the event.  
 
Boston University freshman Justin Ruiz was named Patriot League M-F Athletic Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week after an 8K time of 25:09.3 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. He was the fourth finisher for the Terriers, who won the team title at the event. Lehigh’s Grace Trimmer earned Patriot League M-F Athletic Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week honors with a 5K time of 19:04.1.
 
Lehigh’s Dan Malatesta earned honorable mention honors.
   
PATRIOT LEAGUE M-F ATHLETIC MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK 
Liam Lyons, Holy Cross, Sr., Irvington, N.Y./Irvington
*Lyons won the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday with an 8K time of 24:07.6.
*It is the second individual victory of the season for Lyons.  
  
PATRIOT LEAGUE M-F ATHLETIC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK 
Lucy Afanasewicz, Lehigh, Sr., Leonardo, N.J./Middletown South
*Afanasewicz logged a 5K time of 17:47.4 to lead the Mountain Hawks on the weekend.
*Her time secured an 11th place finish in the event.

PATRIOT LEAGUE M-F ATHLETIC MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK 
Justin Ruiz, Boston University, Fr., Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit
*Ruiz logged an 8K time of 25:09.3 to claim 19th place at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
*He was the fourth finisher for the Terriers, who won the team title at the event.
  
PATRIOT LEAGUE M-F ATHLETIC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK 
Grace Trimmer, Lehigh, Fy., Smock, Pa./Uniontown
*Trimmer rounded out the scoring for Lehigh on the weekend.
*She clocked a time of 19:04.1 in the 5K.

Dan Malatesta, Lehigh, Sr., Niskayuna. N.Y./Niskayuna
*Malatesta led the Mountain Hawks at the Haverford Main Line Invitational, finishing 30th overall.

The 2025 Patriot League Cross Country Championships are slated for Friday, Oct. 31, in Bethlehem, Pa. on the campus of Lehigh University.
