BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy collected two of the four Patriot League M-F Athletic Cross Country weekly awards, when the League office announced the honors on Tuesday. Army West Point and Loyola Maryland each received one award.
Patriot League M-F Athletic Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Dane Eike, Navy, Jr., Parker, Colo./Valor Christian
*Eike secured a 10th-place finish out of 302 runners at the Paul Short Run's College Gold 8K at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course on Friday.
*The junior crossed the line in 24:15.8 to help Navy finish fourth overall as a team with 193 total points.
*It marked the first career Runner of the Week award for Eike.
Patriot League M-F Athletic Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Mikayala Cheney, Army West Point, Sr., New Castle, Colo./Coal Ridge
*Cheney claimed eighth overall at the Paul Short Run’s College Gold 6K at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course on Friday.
*The New Castle, Colo. native was the highest-placing Patriot League runner as she finished in 20:45.0.
*The senior led the Black Knights to fifth place as a team, which was the best finish in Army West Point program history at the Paul Short Run.
*Cheney earned her second Runner of the Week award this campaign.
Patriot League M-F Athletic Men’s Rookie of the Week
Ethan Halpern, Loyola Maryland, Fr., Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow
*Halpern finished 20th overall at the Swags Louisville Cross Country Classis as the freshman clocked a time of 25:44.6 in the 8K race.
*The Longmeadow, Mass. native is just the second Greyhound in program history to be named Men’s Rookie of the Week and first since Sept. 14, 2021.
Patriot League M-F Athletic Women’s Rookie of the Week
Brianne Duynstee, Navy, Fr., Encinitas, Calif/La Costa Canyon
*Duynstee secured 80th among the 315 competitors at the Paul Short Run's College Gold 6K at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course on Friday.
*The Encinitas, Calif. native was top freshman among Patriot League schools in the event as she crossed the line in 21:57.1.
*She helped Navy to a 13th-place team finish out 37 scoring programs to capture her second Rookie of the Week award of the season.
Honorable mentions went to Army West Point’s Max Haying, Bucknell’s Katie Moncavage and Ethan Pratt-Perez, Lehigh’s Ella Blanco and Kaitlyn Highduch, and Loyola Maryland’s Mikey Byrnes.
