Patriot League Announces Swimmers and Divers of the Week (2.3.26)

Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy receive weekly awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lafayette collected three of the six Patriot League men’s and women’s swimming and diving weekly awards when the League office announced the honors on Tuesday. Navy received a pair of honors and Lehigh collected the final award.
 
Lafayette freshman Trevor Olson was honored as both the Patriot League Men’s Swimmer & Rookie of the Week. Olson recorded runner-up finishes in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyles at the Navy Invitational, swimming the second-fastest times in program history in both events.
 
Leopards’ senior Isabella Van Ess was tabbed as the Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Week, presented by Credit Union 1, after winning the 200-yard breaststroke at the Navy Invitational with a school-record time of 2:18.14.


Navy junior Finn Gelbach collected his sixth career Patriot League Men’s Diver of the Week award following a first-place finish on the three-meter board and a runner-up finish on the one-meter board at the Navy Invitational. 
 
For the fifth time this season and 15th time in her career, Navy’s Mackenzie Kim was selected as the Patriot League Women’s Diver of the Week, presented by Credit Union 1. The senior won both diving events at the Navy Invitational against numerous League foes.
 
Lehigh’s Eliza Johnson collected her second Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week honor of the season, presented by Credit Union 1. The first-year won the 50-yard freestyle (23.87) and added a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.82) at the Navy Invitational.
 
Honorable mentions went to Holy Cross’ Addie Jenk, Clara McCarthy and Luke Parada, Lehigh’s Jack Deppe and Navy’s Dean Jones, Chase Maier and Allie Maloney.
 
The Patriot League men’s and women’s swimmers and divers of the week were selected in a vote by League head coaches, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
 
Patriot League Men’s Swimmer & Rookie of the Week
Trevor Olson, Lafayette, Fr., Lancaster, Pa./Stone Independent School
*Olson recorded runner-up finishes in both the 200-yard (1:39.82) and 500-yard freestyles (4:29.47) at the Navy Invitational.
*The freshman moved to No. 2 at Lafayette in both events and becomes the first student-athlete this year to be honored as the Swimmer & Rookie of the Week.
*The Lancaster, Pa. native is the first Leopard to be named Men’s Swimmer of the Week since Jonathan Jenkins on Jan. 22, 2007.
 
Patriot League Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Isabella Van Ess, Lafayette, Sr., Ashburn, Va./Mercersburg Academy
*Van Ess won the 200-yard breaststroke at the Navy Invitational against numerous Patriot League teams, tying her school record with a time of 2:18.14.
*The senior added a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.94.
*The Ashburn, Va. native is the second Leopard in program history to be named Women’s Swimmer of the Week and the first since Liz Helwig on Jan. 20, 2004.
 
Patriot League Men’s Diver of the Week
Finn Gelbach, Navy, Jr., Springfield, Va./The Heights School
*Gelbach captured the title on the three-meter board with a score of 360.75 at the Navy Invitational.
*The junior added a runner-up finish on the one-meter board (318.35), finishing behind teammate Anthony Sciulli (320.60).
 
Patriot League Women’s Diver of the Week
Mackenzie Kim, Navy, Sr., Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Bar
*Mackenize Kim won both diving events to lead the Mids at the Navy Invitational.
*The senior scored 288.15 points to win the one-meter and 313.35 points to win the three-meter board.
*The Diamond Bar, Calif. native collected her fifth Diver of the Week award this season and the 15th of her career.
 
Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week
Eliza Johnson, Lehigh, Fy., Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy
*Johnson won the 50-yard freestyle (23.87) at the Navy Invitational to collect her second Rookie of the Week award this season.
*The first-year added a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.82) and a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley.
 
Honorable Mentions
Addie Jenk, Holy Cross, So., Scottsdale, Ariz./Horizon
*Jenk finished third in the second round of one-meter diving with a score of 277.95 during Holy Cross’ dual meet against Providence.
 
Clara McCarthy, Holy Cross, Fr., Arlington, Va./Washington-Liberty
*McCarthy recorded a runner-up finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.96) and took fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (28.51) in Holy Cross’ meet at Providence. The freshman swam the third leg on the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:05.25).
 
Luke Parada, Holy Cross, Jr., Morrisville, Pa./Pennsbury
*Parada set a school record in the one-meter dive with score of 316.80 to win the event during Holy Cross’ dual meet victory over Providence.
 
Jack Deppe, Lehigh, So., Davidsonville, Md./South River
*Deppe recorded three podium finishes at the Navy Invitational, competing against multiple Patriot League teams.
*The sophomore touched the wall first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:48.67) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:04.75) and finished as the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly (49.68).
 
Dean Jones, Navy, So., Magnolia, Texas/Home Schooled
*Jones won the 500-yard freestyle (4:28.27) and touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (48.04) at the Navy Invitational, which featured American, Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh.
 
Chase Maier, Navy, Fr., Aurora, Ill./Oswego East
*Maier, the reigning Rookie of the Week, recorded a time of 15:29.35 to win the 1,600 freestyle at the Navy Invitational.
*The freshman added an 11th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.06).
 
Allie Maloney, Navy, So., St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesuit Academy
*Maloney recorded four top-three finishes at the Navy Invitational as the Mids competed against American, Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh.
*The sophomore won the 100-yard freestyle (50.87) and 200-yard freestyle (1:50.96), placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (55.81) and finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (24.07).

PATRIOT LEAGUE SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS 
The 2026 Patriot League Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will be held in Annapolis, Md. at the United States Naval Academy’s Lejeune Hall beginning Saturday, Feb. 18 and concluding on Saturday, Feb. 21. All 10 Patriot League Schools will compete.
