Patriot League Announces Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (2.9.26)

Boston University, Holy Cross and Lehigh garner weekly awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Holy Cross received three of the five Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse weekly awards when the League office announced the honors on Monday. Boston University and Lehigh split the remaining awards.

Boston University’s Timothy Shannehan was named Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. The sophomore notched 11 points on five goals and six assists in the Terriers’ 23-7 win over Siena.

Holy Cross senior defender Michael Rincon collected Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors after causing three turnovers and collecting five ground balls in the Crusaders’ double overtime win at Hofstra.

Crusaders’ freshman Shane McDonnell was honored as the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Faceoff Specialist of the Week after finishing 12-for-16 (.750) at the ‘X’ in the 9-8 victory over the Pride.
Holy Cross senior JR Long earned Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week recognition after making 13 saves for the second-straight week.

Lehigh first-year attack Finn Morgan received the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week award following a six-goal performance in the Mountain Hawks’ season-opener.

Honorable mentions went to Army West Point senior goalkeeper Sean Byrne and senior attack Gunnar Fellows, Boston University sophomore defender Murphy McLaughlin and sophomore faceoff specialist Madden Murphy, Colgate junior defender John Carrabine and junior faceoff specialist Kyle Rummel.

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week
Timothy Shannehan, Boston University, So., A, Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep
*Shannehan dominated in Boston University’s 23-7 win over Siena as the sophomore tallied 11 points on five goals and six assists.
* The Fairfield, Conn. native added one caused turnover and four ground balls.
*Shannehan’s 11-point performance is the most by an NCAA Division I player this year and  the second-most by a Terrier in a single game.

*Rincon picked up a game-high five ground balls and caused three turnovers to lead Holy Cross to a 9-8 double overtime win at Hofstra.
*The senior recorded his seventh career game with three-plus caused turnovers.
*The West Linn, Ore. native collected his second career Defensive Player of the Week honor and first since Feb. 6, 2023.

*McDonnell finished 12-of-16 (.750) at the faceoff ‘X’ in Holy Cross’ 9-8 double overtime win at Hofstra.
*The freshman is the first Crusader to be named Faceoff Specialist of the Week since Connor DePiero on Feb. 6, 2023.

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week
JR Long, Holy Cross, Sr., GK, Carlisle, Pa./Trinity
*Long recorded 13 saves for the second straight week in Holy Cross’ 9-8 double overtime victory over Hofstra.
*The senior ranks second in the Patriot League in saves (26) and saves per game (13.00) through two games.
*Long collected Holy Cross’ first Goalkeeper of the Week honor since Feb. 19, 2024 (Dawson Friers).

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Finn Morgan, Lehigh, Fy., A, Oakville, Ontario/The Hill Academy
*Morgan scored a game-high six goals in his collegiate debut as Lehigh fell to Fairfield, 14-13, in overtime on Friday.
*The first-year tallied five second-half goals to force overtime as the Mountain Hawks trailed 9-4.

*Bryne, the reigning Goalkeeper of the Week, finished with a game-high 12 saves in Army West Point’s 11-9 win at No. 18 Rutgers.
*The senior leads the Patriot League in save percentage (.575) and ranks third in saves (23) through two games.

Gunnar Fellows, Army West Point, Sr., A, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Valor Christian
*Fellows produced a game-high four goals to lead Army West Point to an 11-9 win over No. 18 Rutgers.
*The senior added three ground balls in his 15th career game with at least three goals.
*The Highlands Ranch, Colo. native is now tied for 31st in career points at West Point.

Murphy McLaughlin, Boston University, So., D, Milton, Mass./Milton Academy
*Murphy scored his first collegiate goal to go along with three ground balls and three caused turnovers in Boston University’s 23-7 win over Siena.
*The sophomore held Siena’s Caden Olmstead without a point across his three quarters played.

Madden Murphy, Boston University, So., FO, East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville
*Murphy finished 12-for-19 (.632) at the ‘X’ with two ground balls in Boston University’s rout of Siena on Friday.

John Carrabine, Colgate, Jr., D, Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest
*Carrabine collected a career-high 10 ground balls and caused two turnovers in Colgate’s 19-14 loss at No. 14 Virgina.
