William & Mary scores 13 points in final 53 seconds to earn win; Raiders ride the run game in victory

VILLANOVA, Pa. – William & Mary’s Max Lipinski (Jr., PK) connected on a 45-yard field goal as time expired as the Tribe scored 13 unanswered points in the final 53 seconds in a 35-32 comeback victory over No. 7/8 Villanova in the Patriot League debut for both programs.
*Trailing 32-22, Lipinski hit a 40-yard field goal with 53 seconds remaining before the Tribe recovered an onside kick to set up a 37-yard touchdown pass from Winston Watkins (Jr., QB) to Kai Austin (So., WR) three plays later, tying the score at 32.
*W&M’s Cade Ellis (Fr., DB) intercepted his second pass of the game, returning it 24 yards to the Villanova 28-yard line with five seconds left to set up the game-winning field goal.
*Lipinski’s five made field goals broke a William & Mary single-game program record.
*Watkins completed 19-of-33 passes for 254 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, while rushing for 72 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries.
*Austin caught four passes for 76 yards and a score, while Carson Jenkins (Sr., WR) caught three passes for 69 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown reception on W&M’s first possession of the game.
*Harrison Johnson (Jr., LB) posted a team-high eight tackles and a fumble recovery for a Tribe defense and special teams unit that recorded five takeaways.
*Villanova’s Isaiah Ragland (Jr., RB) led the Wildcats with 94 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries, including a 37-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter. He also had two catches for 30 yards.
*Jake Hilton caught four passes for a career-high 132 yards, and Brandon Binkowski (So., WR) caught four passes for 56 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown.
*Omari Bursey (So., LB) posted career-highs of 15 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss (TFL) and one sack to lead the Wildcats’ defense. Ratu Delano Navoti (So., DL) posted four tackles and two sacks.
*Jamie Tyson (So., DB) posted four tackles, forced a fumble and returned an interception 36 yards to set up a Wildcats touchdown.

BRONX, N.Y. – Danny Shaban (Jr., RB) rushed for a career-high 214 yards and two touchdowns to lead Colgate to a 24-14 season-opening victory over Fordham at Moglia Stadium.
*Shaban opened the scoring with a one-yard first-quarter touchdown run and closed the game with a 29-yard scoring rush with less than two minutes left to seal the Raiders’ win.
*The Raiders’ offense posted 434 yards of total offense, including 275 on the ground while averaging 6.0 yards per carry.
*Matt Fogler (So., WR), the reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year, caught four passes for 45 yards.
*Christian Magliacano (Jr., LB) led Colgate with eight tackles and Paul-Marie Dogui (Jr., LB) added six tackles and 1.0 TFL, helping limit Fordham to 189 yards of total offense.
*After trailing 14-0 in the first half, Fordham scored 14 straight points in the third quarter to tie the game, as Gunnar Smith (Sr., QB) completed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Gonzalez II (Sr., WR).
*Justin Johnson (Sr., DB) returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown at the 8:08 mark in the third quarter for the Rams’ final score of the game.
*Fordham’s Andrew Osmun (Sr., LB) and Jaylen Dawson (Jr., LB) had 10 tackles apiece, while Osmun added a half sack and an interception.
