Carolyn Schlie Femovich, Executive Director of the Patriot League, announced today the addition of Daniel E. Trump to the office staff as Assistant Executive Director for Sport Management and Governance. Trump will join the Patriot League staff June 10.
Trump, who has been the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance at Oregon State University for more than two years, replaces Dr. M. Grace Calhoun, who will be leaving the League for family reasons.
Calhoun, whose husband Jason is the head golf professional and men's golf coach at Dartmouth College, joined the Patriot League in 1998 as the Associate Executive Director with primary responsibilities of sport management, championships, governance and compliance.
"We are extremely pleased to have Dan join our staff," Femovich said. "His varied background in working with both varsity sport programs and compliance at the Division I level, as well as his experiences as a Division I student-athlete and coach were very well suited to the needs of our membership."
"I'm very excited to be afforded the opportunity to work in the Patriot League," Trump said. "To be associated with such outstanding institutions is truly an honor. I look forward to becoming more familiar with the League, the student-athletes and each member institution."
Trump's Patriot League responsibilities will be to supervise the governance and sport management of the League's 22 championship sports. He will also oversee the League's compliance program and contribute to championship administration.
Originally from Los Angeles, Calif., Trump is a 1992 graduate of the University of California-Berkeley, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in sociology. During his playing career, Trump was a catcher and four-year letterwinner. He played in the College World Series twice and served as team captain during his senior season.
In 1992, Trump joined the staff at Loyola Marymount University as the Athletic Ticket Manager and Facilities Director. In his second year at LMU, he added responsibilities as assistant baseball coach for the Lions.
He left Loyola Marymount in 1994 to pursue his master's degree at Central Michigan University, where he also volunteered as the coordinator for the Michigan Special Olympics, with responsibility of recruiting, scheduling and housing more than 400 volunteers.
After a one-year internship at Cal-Berkeley, Trump returned to Loyola Marymount as the Athletic Promotions Coordinator/Ticket Manager. He was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director/Compliance Coordinator in 1997 and served in that role for more than two years before accepting his current position at Oregon State University.
At Oregon State, Trump was responsible for the coordination of all NCAA Division I, Pacific-10 Conference and OSU compliance procedures necessary to sponsor 15 varsity teams with 500 plus student-athletes competing.
"Throughout the selection process, he demonstrated a true desire to work in an environment where athletics plays a complimentary role to the academic experiences of student-athletes," Femovich said. "As a scholar-athlete at California-Berkeley, he has a strong understanding of the combination of academic and athletic excellence."
Trump and his fiance? Marcene James, originally from Ellicott City, Md., plan to be married in September.
