CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – On Thursday, four Patriot League student-athletes from Navy were selected to the 2016 Academic All-America Division I Men and Women’s At-Large Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Senior swimmer Ellen Bradford and senior rower Rebecca Greenberg both collected first-team honors, while senior rower Kathleen Heinbach was named to the women’s second team. For the men, junior swimmer Ryan Bailey was a third-team selection.

In addition, fellow Midshipmen Connor Westrick (Sr., gymnastics) and Michael Woulfe (Sr., wrestling) joined Bailey on the third team.

The at-large teams for the Academic All-America® program include the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis and water polo for both men and women, as well as beach volleyball, bowling, crew and field hockey for women, and volleyball and wrestling for men.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

On the women’s side, nearly 75 percent (34) of the 46 members of the 2016 Academic All-America® Division I Women’s At-Large Team posted at least a 3.90 G.P.A., including a staggering 26 student-athletes with a spotless 4.0 G.P.A. Bradford (Honors Systems Engineering), Greenberg (Honors Systems Engineering), and Heinbach (Computer Engineering) are each included in the 26.

Additionally, Bradford – the 2016 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year – is one of five student-athletes on this year’s CoSIDA Academic All-America Women’s DI At-Large Team that was a three-time choice. (The senior was a third-team honoree in 2014 and earned first team accolades last year.)

For the men, exactly two-thirds (30) of the 45 student-athletes on the At-Large team earned a least a 3.90 G.P.A., which includes Bailey’s 3.97 in Operations Research.

Earlier this month, Bradford, Greenberg, Heinbach, and Bailey along with Westrick, Woulfe, Natalie Konerth (American, Jr., field hockey), and Veronica Toro (MIT, Sr., rower) were named to the Division I Academic All-District teams by CoSIDA.
