Mark Murphy, Colgate University's athletic
director, has been named on the Washington Redskins' "70 Greatest" roster.
The Greatest of the greats were announced by a blue-ribbon panel
selected to choose the Washington Redskins' leading on-field contributors in
celebration of the NFL franchise's 70th anniversary.
Spanning the entire history of the team since its founding in Boston
in 1932, the 70 Greatest Redskins encompass three head coaches and 67
players.
The 70 Greatest Redskins will be honored at weekend festivities,
including a charity gala, on Friday, October 25, at the Marriott Wardman
Park Hotel in Washington. They also will be recognized at FedExField in a
ceremony at the team's Sunday, October 27, night game against the
Indianapolis Colts.
Following graduation from Colgate in 1977, Murphy signed as a free
safety with Washington under George Allen, where he played from 1977-85.
During his professional career, he was co-captain of the Super Bowl XVII
championship team, and was named to the Pro Bowl in 1983.
In 1984, Murphy
was named the Miller Man of the Year for his community work, and later was
selected to the Redskins 50th Anniversary first team.
