Kathy Frick has been named the new head coach of the Lafayette women's lacrosse program, Lafayette Director of Athletics Bruce McCutcheon announced on Thursday.

Frick had spent the past six seasons as head coach at Division II Bloomsburg University where she compiled a record of 69-38. She coached Bloomsburg to conference titles in 2000 and 2003 and finished as runner-up in 1999, 2002 and 2004.

"Kathy Frick has been successful at every level of collegiate coaching and has enabled her teams to compete on a national stage," McCutcheon said. "She brings 10 years of collegiate head coaching experience and has the knowledge of what it takes to run a successful women's lacrosse program."

In 2000 Frick enjoyed a career season, securing Division II national Coach of the Year honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association while guiding her squad to the league title and a No. 1 national ranking at the season's conclusion. While at Bloomsburg, Frick also served as an assistant field hockey coach for the Huskies and was a part of four Division II National Championship teams in 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003.

Prior to coaching at Bloomsburg, Frick was the women's lacrosse head coach at Division III Goucher College in Baltimore, Md. She led the Lady Gophers to the national semifinals for the first time in school history in 1996 and also collected Capitol Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors. At Goucher, she was also the head field hockey coach where she guided her squad to the Division III Regionals in 1995.

Frick began her coaching career at Roanoke College in Salem, Va. as an assistant coach in lacrosse and field hockey from 1991-1992 and similar positions at fellow Patriot League institution Colgate University from 1992-1994. In 1994-1995, she accepted her first head coaching position at University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

"I am very excited to be taking over the Lafayette women's lacrosse program. Lafayette College is a great place to work, and I know that it is committed to winning," Frick said. "The program and its student-athletes have a tremendous championship tradition, and I hope to help current and future teams to rise to that level."

A graduate of Bloomsburg University, Frick was a two-time All-American in field hockey and also an All-American in lacrosse. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Bloomsburg in 1990.

The Lafayette women's lacrosse program has captured 10 Patriot League titles in 14 seasons of conference play, recording an all-time Patriot League record of 54-11. The Leopards have made 17 postseason appearances, including four trips to the NCAA Championship Tournament and a National Championship run in 1981.

The Leopards will open the 2005 season on March 3 at Princeton.
