Following the resounding success of last season's comprehensive web broadcast package, Lehigh Athletics has expanded the breadth of its coverage in announcing its Fall 2002 broadcast schedule. Plans call for nearly 200 sporting events to be streamed on the Lehigh web site during the 2002-2003 school year.

Making its debut last season, Lehigh's extensive web package brought nearly 150 Lehigh athletic events into the living rooms of Mountain Hawks parents, alumni, and fans via the Internet.

Lehigh has long been a leader in collegiate sports broadcasting on local radio and television, and is now paving the way for the future: broadcasting not just the ticket-selling sports, but a myriad of athletic events on-line. Fans have been able to log onto the Lehigh web site (www.lehigh.edu) and tune in to sports such as volleyball, lacrosse, field hockey, soccer, baseball, and softball games live.

"Lehigh fans, parents, and alumni have always supported our athletic programs, and we want them to continue to be able to do so, no matter where they may be," said Lehigh Associate Athletic Director Glenn Hofmann.

"We have heard so many positive comments from people who have listened to our football, wrestling, and basketball games on the web, and we wanted to afford similar opportunities to as many of our fans and supporters in as many sports as possible. The addition last year of non-ticket selling sports broadcasts to our schedule proved to be very popular as well, so much so that we've increased coverage this year."

Lehigh has partnered with FASTNET to provide live streaming of all athletic events that are broadcast, including football, men's and women's basketball, and wrestling. In addition to web coverage, football and men's basketball games can also be heard locally on the strongest AM signal in the Lehigh Valley, WKAP (Oldies 1470 AM) with Matt Kerr providing the play-by-play.

For the fourth consecutive season, Lehigh's 2001 football broadcast ratings once again more than doubled those of Penn State's within the Lehigh Valley. All of the women's basketball games will air live on WLVR-FM (91.3) with Jeff Tourial, and wrestling dual meets can be heard on the Lehigh Valley's only all-sports radio station, WEEX-AM (The Sports Monster 1230) with Ross Nunamaker.

The Fall 2002 broadcast schedule includes 13 volleyball contests, eight men's and seven women's soccer matches, and ten field hockey showdowns, in addition to the broadcast of any post-season action. In the spring, plans call for the broadcast of up to 15 baseball and 15 softball games, and eight men's and eight women's lacrosse contests.
