Army Director of Athletics Rick Greenspan and Bucknell Associate Director of Athletics Amanda Backus were added to NCAA Division I Sport Committees while Lehigh Director of Athletics Joe Sterrett was named the chair of the I-AA football championship committee, adding to the impressive list of Patriot League representatives on NCAA various governance and sport committees for the 2002-03 academic year.
"The Patriot League is commited to being active participants on national and regional governing bodies," said Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich. "Through participation on NCAA committees, the League's perspective on national issues is well represented. An additional benefit is our entire membership is kept up-to-date on governance issues and management of sport championships."
Greenspan, the chair of the PL Committee on Athletic Administration, was re-appointed to the Division I Men's Soccer Committee. He joined the committee last spring as an interim replacement, but has now been permanently renewed for a full four-year term.
Backus is a new appointee to the Div. I Field Hockey Committee, replacing recently-retired Lafayette Associate AD Pat Fisher.
Sterrett, who has served for several years on the NCAA I-AA Football Championship Committee, was appointed to chair the committee this year. He is also scheduled to serve for another year on the Football Issues Committee.
The League is represented on 11 NCAA governance and sport committees, including Femovich and Holy Cross Director of Athletics Richard Regan Jr. on the Division I Management Council, which reviews and acts upon all proposed legislation and forwards recommendations to the NCAA Board of Directors.
PL Directors of Athletics Bruce McCutcheon (Lafayette), Mark Murphy (Colgate), John P. Hardt (Bucknell) and Holy Cross Associate Director of Athletics Rosemary Shea will all enter their second year of a four-year term on NCAA committees.
McCutcheon represents the PL on the Academics, Eligibility and Compliance Cabinet. Murphy is a member of the Championships and Competition Cabinet. Hardt contributes to the Committee on Athletics Certification. Shea is a member of the Rowing Committee.
